My 9-month puppy is puking, lethargic, and won't drink. What to do?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like Joplin is very very sick. She might have a condition called "Parvovirus" which is a very serious virus that affects puppies, and is more likely if Joplin is unvaccinated. The other possible causes in a puppy include an obstruction in her gut (a blockage from a foreign object (ex. ball) that she ate, or an intussusception (the intestines telescoping in on each other). Also, depending on her age, pyometra is possible along with many other conditions. With what you are describing, I am very concerned that she could die without aggressive care. I strongly recommend you get Joplin to a vet right away, and if your vet is closed go to your closest emergency clinic. They will recommend a test of her poop, as well as possible bloodwork and x-rays, and will likely want to keep her in hospital on IV fluids and medications. It sounds like your puppy is extremely sick, and parvovirus can take a few weeks for a dog to fully recover. It's very concerning he is not drinking as dehydration is the number one cause of death in these animals. He should see a vet again immediately, please take him into one now. Best of luck.

Vomiting can be a sign of a number of different problems ranging from minor issues like eating a non-food item from the yard to more serious diseases. Sometimes after vomiting dogs can feel nauseous or weak, so I wouldn't be too concerned about Poochie not responding to his name unless he also seems disoriented or extremely lethargic. If the vomiting continues or he continues to act very abnormal you should see an emergency veterinarian. While it is probably okay to drink a little water I wouldn't encourage him to drink too much as this can sometimes trigger more vomiting.

I'm really sorry that Wylie is not feeling well. At this stage I really think you need to get him to a vet for an exam and treatment. There is only so much you can do at home - obviously he is not responding and is actually worse after 3 days. The best advice is to get him to a vet as soon as possible. In a young dogs (like less than a year old) that are vomiting, not eating, lethargic is often due to an intestinal obstruction; I would be very worried about that. Please get him to a vet ASAP.

Julia should be examined by your veterinarian today. Vomiting and a lack of appetite in a puppy can quickly lead to dehydration which can kill. If she is not vaccinated, diseases such as distemper should be ruled out. At the very least, she may need supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, anti emetics and parenteral nutrtion) until she is eating on her own and not vomting any longer.

Hello, sorry to hear about Indigo. Ultimately it sounds like she could be very dehydrated and needs to see a veterinarian. She would first need to be tested for parvo, if negative other things could be considered such as low glucose, a foreign body which could be causing an obstruction, or even parasites. Hello. I am sorry to hear that Sugar is feeling so sick. When a puppy is lying around, not eating or drinking they are usually very ill. This may be either an infection (like Parvo), a problem she was born with (a congenital problem), or possibly something she ate or got into. I understand you are short on finances. Please offer Sugar some baby food directly into her mouth. If she will not take baby food from you and has not eaten all day her blood sugar may get dangerously low. You should see if she can lick up a small amount of karo syrup to try and increase her blood sugar level. If at all possible I would get her to an emergency veterinarian tonight to have her assessed. At least an exam can give you a lot of information about her vitals and they can lead you in the right direction to try and get her better. I hope the best for her.
