Why is my 7-week puppy pooping worms, constipated, and itchy ears?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. At 11 weeks of age, and already having these issues, I strongly suggest you take Ares to your vet for an exam. He should be due for a round of vaccines about this time (11-12 weeks of age) so you you should be taking him to the vet anyway. Have them check the ears. He could have ear mites, he could have an ear infection or he could have allergies. I suggest you try to figure this out before it gets out of hand. As for the worms, do you what kind they are? Not every dewormer treats for every type of worm so again, he should see the vet. They need do a fecal test to see what types of worms are actually present so Ares can get the appropriate treatment. Usually you don't even see the worms (only the worm eggs which are microscopic are in the feces). If you are seeing the actual worms then he must have a heavy worm burden. Leaving worms untreated (or treated incorrectly) can lead to an deadly worm impaction (blockage) in the intestines and worms can also lead to a life-threatening anemia as they are blood suckers. It sounds like he has roundworms. VERY common in puppies. The pyrantel is fine to use but I cannot speak to the dose as I don't know how many mg per ml it is. Use the dosing recommendations on the bottle. Puppies need to be dewormed with pyrantel at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age when they get their vaccines. If he is still showing signs of worms after those three doses then he may need additional treatment. If he is itchy, at his age it is likely fleas or mites. I would treat him for fleas even if you don't see them on him. At 7 months old, most of her teeth should be in place, and teething does not normally cause ear issues in dogs. Possible causes for her itchy ears include bacterial or yeast ear infection, mites, fleas, or allergies. You can try a medicated ear flush like Dechra Malacetic Ultra Otic for a few days, as well as having Princess on a good flea preventative. If it doesn't get better, she should be seen by a vet for evaluation. The vet will probably do a thorough otic exam and an ear cytology to find the cause of the itch. Then appropriate medications can be prescribed.

These are roundworms. They are a common parasite for puppies to acquire at birth and don't tend to cause any major problems. They are easily treatable with deworming medication that can be purchased at a pet store, or a veterinary office. I recommend having a vet prescribe the medication to ensure it's safe for Oreo and proper instructions are given. I hope that helps and all is well with Oreo.

It is concerning that she hasn't pooped for two days and she is crying when she tries to go to the toilet. In such a young puppy, this is something that needs to be treated now by a vet. She may need a laxative or an enema to help her pass feces, which should only be given by a vet. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Generally, topical medications such as ear drops are not absorbed into the system enough to cause gastrointestinal changes. More likely there is something else going on that is causing the stool color change. Young puppies are susceptible to infection including intestinal parasites and easily develop diarrhea due to a change in the diet. If the issue persists, it's definitely worth taking him to your local vet for an exam.

Poor pup! That does look quite suspicious for an ear infection, since normal ears should be very clean with no obvious wax or debris in the ear canal. I would recommend taking him to the vet to have this checked out. Your veterinarian can examine a sample of the debris under the microscope to determine what kind of infection is present (yeast, bacteria, etc.), and will prescribe appropriate medication to treat it depending on what is found.
