My trained puppy is peeing inside again. Training or health?

I would recommend to rule out something like an infection in Presley's bladder before you give up on her. Since she can't talk, you don't know the reasoning behind this behavior. The veterinarian will look at her urine sample to see if there are any abnormalities which may cause this behavior. Go from there. If it does look to be more behavioral, speak with a trainer, read some books about housebreaking difficult dogs. Most dogs can be properly housebroken but not all learn in the same fashion. I am sorry that you are having to go through this! If I read the question correctly.... They were both not having accidents for an entire year and then it started again... That certainly seems strange. The first thing that I like to do is rule out a medical problem, especially in Scooter. Kidney problems, bladder infections, diabetes, Cushings Dz are just a few of the conditions that can cause excess urination. If he has a medical problem and is urinating in the house, your puppy might be just thinking it is ok to urinate in the house. I would try to see if you can figure out if it is small puddles very often or larger puddles. The veterinarian can collect a urine sample and run a urinalysis to help diagnose a problem. They may see something like a low specific gravity (concentration of urine) and need to run blood work. You can also take your puppy in to have a urinalysis done as well. If it is not a medical problem, then you will have to try to re-train them. The puppy will most likely be easier. I would recommend going back to crate training. The places where the accidents have happened have to be cleaned very well. You may need to keep Scooter in a small room with an easy to clean floor when your are gone. Good Luck! Yes, you sure try the turf product. Works well for many people. If he already had a UTI at such a young age I would be worried it has recurred or it was never completely resolved (not sure how long ago it was). There could also be a different underlying medical issue. If the turf does not help you should have him back to the vet for a follow-up. Inappropriate urinating behavior can actually be a sign of a urinary problem. It's also possible that this is a behavior issue, but I would want to rule-out a medical problem before retraining him not to pee in the house. Other signs of a urinary disease include an increase in urinating, urinating many times in small amounts, straining to urinate, blood in urine and an increase in drinking. It's best to have a vet evaluate Thor. They can do a few quick tests to see if anything is wrong and advise the necessary treatment. It's also good to ensure that the area where Thor has peed is cleaned well with an odor removing product (can find some good products at the pet store). Sometimes, dogs will continue to pee in the house, because they smell the urine and it makes them want to pee on the same spot again. I hope that helps and all is well with Thor.

If this is a relatively new problem, Nikki may have an underlying medical condition - like a urinary tract infection. I suggest you have her examined by your vet and have a urine test done to check for infection or other underlying medical problem. If you can rule out a medical problem then you can assume it is behavioral, in which case, you should consult with a professional, in-home dog trainer. It is very hard to potty train a dog this age without professional help.

AT Dante's age, you shoudl start decreasing the amount of puppy milk and increasing the amount of food. He should be fully weaned by 8 weeks of age so milk is no longer needed. I do recommend to have his urine checked for any infection. Puppies do urinate frequently but they typically just go in one large pee puddle. Not several smaller puddles.
