Why does my 6-month puppy pee in crate during day but not at night?

It is very common for them to have a small relapse in their training around 6-8 months old. It could also be due to an urinary tract infection. I would first have her urine checked to ensure everything is normal. If so, I would take out all blankets. Sometimes they will relearn how to hold it if there isn't anything in there to soak up their urine. I had to do this with one of my own dogs and it worked after a few days. Just be sure to keep a strict routine and also don't let her drink a lot of water right before she gets in the crate in the morning. Also, do not leave water in the crate with her. Many dogs need to be crated at night to prevent accidents until they are 1-2 years old, so this is not unexpected - I would simply go ahead and crate her at night for now :) Once she's a bit older, you can gradually try giving her more freedom in the house at night. Excited peeing is usually something that puppies grow out of once they're older. In the meantime, you can help by ignoring her for a few minutes when you first get home and asking your visitors to do the same. Once she calms down a bit, you can gently pet her and say hello. Leaning over dogs to greet them also tends to make this problem worse, so crouching down to say hi may also be helpful. You can also take her outside to potty just before visitors come over to help decrease the chances of an accident. It's also very important not to punish her for this behavior, as she can't help it - corrections will only make her more anxious, and often makes the urination worse.

When potty training a puppy, there will be steps forward and step backwards. It can be expected the puppy will have accidents while they are being potty trained. I wouldn't let Charlie have any water before going into the crate, and you are doing the right thing by putting her outside before going in the crate and only leaving her for a maximum of 3.5 hours. This is a very common problem with puppies :) It sounds like the pen he is in is probably too large - it gives him too much space to work with, and makes it easy for him to wake up and find a spot to pee, rather than either holding it or whining to let you know he needs to go out. Instead of the pen, I would recommend having him sleep in a crate in your bedroom at night. Most puppies instinctively do not want to pee where they are sleeping, so in most cases this means that the pup will whine to wake you up if he needs to go out during the night. As he gets older and his bladder control improves, he should start to be able to hold it all night with no problems.

How frustrating for you! It may be that Nox needs to be let out in the middle of the night to pee, and I would start getting up once in the night to let him out to see if that keeps him from urinating in his crate. If that doesn't help, it could be that he is suffering from separation anxiety and does not like being left alone at night. You can try keeping the crate in your room, or using DAP. This is a pheromone diffuser that helps dogs with anxiety, and you plug it in the room where he is kept. That may help calm him at night and keep him from urinating in his crate.

It does sound like Bella was holding it in the whole time, and six hours is too long to leave a three month old puppy without a potty break. She needs to be let out to go potty at least once every three hours. You can still put her in the crate while you are gone, but I would come back if you can every three hours to let her out, or you can hire someone to let her out every three hours. As she grows, she won't need to be let out every three hours, and by the time she is six months old, she could hold it for up to six hours, so having someone come by is only a short term thing. Crate training is an effective way to potty train a dog, and I do recommend it. I will give you my method for potty training Bella when you are home with her: Start by keeping your puppy on a regular feeding schedule, and taking away her food between meals. Take her out to potty first thing every morning, and once every 30 minutes to an hour. Always make sure she goes out after meals, first thing when she wakes up from a nap, last thing before bedtime at night, and right before you leave the house. Take her to the same spot each time to go potty. Her scent there will encourage her to go. Stay with her outside each time she goes to potty, at least until she is fully house trained. When she goes outside, praise her and give her a treat. I hope this all helps :-)

Four months is a very young age still and one where I wouldn't expect Fendi to be completely potty trained. That said, she should still be able to hold it about an hour or two, and if she can't, then scheduling a vet visit to make sure there isn't a health issue related first is a good idea. If she checks out healthy, sticking to a strict potty training routine is best. This means going out every 1-2 hours, after waking, eating, drinking, playing, etc to give her opportunities to go outside. If she is pottying in her kennel, it may be too big for her (it should be just big enough to comfortably lay down and turn around in, but not so big she can potty on one side and lay on the other.) Blocking off the house so she has limited access and limited chance to have an accident can also help.
