Is it normal my puppy hasn't pooped after cryptorchidism surgery?

Plus she was probably not eating well before surgery due to being ill and most patients are fasted for a bit after surgery. This means there is likely less food in her system to come out. Unless she is straining to defecate, it is typically not worrisome that she is not defecating regularly yet. As far as the drinking, she most likely received IV fluids under anesthesia and while hospitalized. This would have provided her with a large amount of fluids. Now eating the canned food, this is supplying her with moisture as well. As long as she is eating and is acting normally, then I suspect her recovery is going well. If the swelling is still significant or if it is bothering Nelson, you should get him checked again by your local vets as he may need a course of anti-inflammatory medications. As long as your puppy is passing normal, solid stools and he does not show any discomfort during defecation, it is most likely normal for him to poop only once a day and there is nothing to worry about.

As long as Russ is still eating, drinking, isn’t vomiting, and isn’t straining the poop should come. If he still doesn’t have a bowel movement by Monday night I’d call your Vet to discuss. It is normal to have no bowel movement for 24-48 hours after an anesthetic procedure. The anesthesia will slow down gut motility short term, so defecation is sometimes delayed. Also, if Daisy is on a medication such as Tramadol or Buprenex, these cam also cause constipation and you should discontinue these if Daisy has not gone within 48 hours. This can happen. Between being fasted prior to surgery and pain medications, his GI system may be empty yet or slow. Continue to feed him as you normally and he will eventually defecate. If he doesn't within 48 hours of eating normal meals, have him rechecked by your veterinarian.
