My dog was neutered yesterday, hasn't pooped yet. Is this normal?

Pain after neutering does occur, and your vet can give you pain medication for him if they haven't already. After neutering, some dogs can be tired and want to rest a little more than usual. Keep an eye on the stitches where the surgery was done, and make sure they don't become red and swollen. Do not let your dog lick the stitches. Your dog likely didn't poop until this morning because they weren't allowed any food for 12 hours before the surgery, so they wouldn't have anything to poop out. Butt scooting can also indicate parasites, so if his worming isn't up to date, I would get worming tablets from your vet. If the incision site becomes red, swollen, and warm to the touch, I would contact your vet right away for an appointment. It is also okay to give your vet a call if you are concerned about your dog being in pain, and see what options they can give you for pain relief.

It is not unusual for dogs to not have interest in food and water that first night after anesthesia and surgery. However, if you have concerns that something isn’t right then it is always safest to have her examined by a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may have an emergency number or they may refer to a local emergency center. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon.

It is normal to have no bowel movement for 24-48 hours after an anesthetic procedure. The anesthesia will slow down gut motility short term, so defecation is sometimes delayed. Also, if Daisy is on a medication such as Tramadol or Buprenex, these cam also cause constipation and you should discontinue these if Daisy has not gone within 48 hours. Poor pup! If he's vomiting, not eating, and isn't able to keep anything down, this is very concerning - so I would recommend taking him back in to your veterinarian today to be seen. It's possible that this could be some type of complication related to his neuter surgery, or could be a totally separate problem. Your veterinarian can examine him and may recommend blood work, x-rays, or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem and see what kind of treatment is needed.

The anaesthetic can stay in the system up to 24 hours which could still be effecting him. Alternatively he could be uncomfortable down there following the procedure. I wouldn't worry about it as yet if he seems bright but I would certainly get it checked out if it continues for a few days. Let him out often to try and avoid accidents.

It would be highly unusual for a kitten to have urinary complications after neutering. You are a good pet parent for monitoring him, but as long as he is interacting with you, interested in food, and is doing normal cat behaviors such as grooming I wouldn’t worry yet. If he’s repeatedly getting into and out of the litter box without producing anything, if he starts vocalizing in the box, or if there is bloody discharge from the surgical area take him right in.

I am sorry to hear that Rosie is not well. This is very uncommon to see a dog being so unwell 5 days after neutering. I would strongly recommend you to take Rosie back to your vet and ask to perform some investigation to make sure that she is ok. Vomiting could be a side-effect of general anaesthesia or morphine injections but in some cases vomiting in post-operative period may be due to kidney malfunction. Also, infection within the abdominal cavity causing vomiting and lethargy is possible. To be on a safe side, Rosie should have a blood test and abdominal scan done as soon as possible.
