My puppy's nose got hurt by a nail file. Does he need vet care?

This is a difficult place to put anything on, because it will just be licked off. From what I'm seeing in the picture, it is a very minor abrasion, so I would not be to worried about it getting any worse. For now, it's best to just keep the wound clean by wiping it with warm water occasionally. This should be completely healed within the next two weeks.

While this may be caused by a bite from another dog, from my experience, this looks a little bit more like a wound from nudging something constantly with the nose. Perhaps nudging a door to a crate, or sticking his nose under a door repeatedly. I recommend keeping a close eye on the area, and maybe even getting Bear an E-collar or "cone" so that he does not cause further trauma to the area. I advise against applying antibiotic ointments such as Neosporin as Bear is likely to lick them off quickly. I hope this helps and that all is well with Bear!

I would put some neosporin in it twice a day. If it is deep, I would have your vet look at it to ensure she doesn’t need any stitches. I would not give her any human pain meds as most are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps!

Hi there! Good job cleaning with plain warm water- that is perfect! That wound is fairly superficial and will likely heal just fine on its own. If it's dirty, just a simple wipe with warm water should be sufficient. I generally recommend keeping scratches like that open to air, so no need to use neosporin. If you already put some on her and she licked it off, there should not be any problems though. This does not appear to be a bite of any form. Could be scratches. I don't see anything here that I would be overly concerned with and I don't think your vet would do anything at this stage either. If you want to try something I would recommend you use this wound spray on the nose. It won't hurt her if he licks it off but I suggest you try to minimize that because if he licks it off, it can't work. So, I suggest soaking a cotton ball with the spray and then wiping it on the nose. Dogs don't typically like being sprayed in the face; you don't want to scare him. Put it on and then distract him for a few minutes with a Kong filled with treats or something similar to get his mind off of it. It should dry rather quickly and you don't need to use a lot - just a very thin layer twice a day. You're correct. It looks like a minor scrape. I would not be worried about it. You can put some Neosporin (or similar) on it 2-3 times per day if you would like. Thanks for the photos! Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Any products you put on it might just cause a bacterial skin infection due to the moisture, or he will likely lick it off. Just leave it alone to heal on it's own. It might take a few weeks.
