My puppy's mouth is swollen, red, and painful. Is it teething?

Inappetence, vomiting and swelling in the neck are unusual in a dog his age; I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to see if there is an underlying issue going on that needs to be addressed beyond teething, as with any young animal, we would want to catch it early to try to prevent it from becoming worse. I would advise taking her to your vet for an exam after they gather the history. This could be pain, discomfort, infection, inflammation, anatomical problems, among other things. Hi there and thanks for posting! Sounds like Reese may have a dental issue- or perhaps just pain from his baby teeth coming out as his adult teeth start coming in. This is not uncommon in puppies this age, however, I would suggest Reese see a veterinarian for an oral exam just to make sure there is nothing more concerning happening. If the swelling is hot and painful to touch, it is probably an abscess. In this case, you should take Angie to your local vets for an appointment today. If the swelling is not bothering your puppy, is soft and is not warm to touch, it could be an allergic reaction. In that case, you can monitor Angie at home for a few hours and apply a cold compress on the face every 1-2 hrs. If it is an allergy, the swelling should go down in the next 5-6 hrs.

It is not possible to know with just a picture. However, it is not recommended to give a dog Advil as this is not used in veterinary medicine due to its possible toxicity especially without possibly an appropriate dose. There is not much you can do at home without going to a veterinarian. For that reason, I recommend you consider going to your veterinarian for further assessment and possible treatment. They will start with a physical examination and possibly diagnostics depending on what the issue seems to be. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. I would recommend having this examined by a veterinarian. This type of swelling we can see with severe tooth root abscesses. It is likely reksio will need a course of oral antibiotics and an anti inflammatory. I would get this seen sooner rather than later as this type of infection will conti i.e. to grow bigger until the infection is treated and the tooth removed that is causing the problem otherwise, this can rupture through the skin and he will be left with a large wound on the face.
