Why does my 9-week-old puppy have lumps on face and anal sore?

It looks like Annie has a skin infection. These lesion can be painful, almost like a pimple on us that is red and swollen. I recommend bringing Annie to a veterinarian. All puppies should be looked at and vaccinated around 8 weeks of age, but your vet will be able to prescribe medication that will help clear this up. Until you can get her to a vet I recommend an Elizabethan collar so she cannot lick at the area. The more Annie licks the worse it will get. Those bumps could be a few things such as blocked pores, an infection or related to her anal glands. These lesions generally resolve on their own without treatment but you should monitor the area closely. Also make sure she does not traumatize the area. If the lesions are not improving after 2 weeks or if they get worse at any point, have the lesions examined by the veterinarian. It is difficult to say for sure with just a picture but it looks like a pustule. This is common in puppies and is called puppy pyoderma. It will usually heal on its in it occasionally they will get more of them and will need oral antibiotics. Watch it closely and make sure it isn't getting bigger and make sure more aren't coming up. Also make sure she is eating, drinking and playing normally.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From what I can tell via your photo, this looks a lot like puppy pyoderma-a very common condition among young dogs. Essentially, these are "pimples" for puppies and usually caused by staph bacteria. I will usually try to rule out any underlying flea problem resulting in pustules, etc when I see these patients. If I see nothing else of concern I will usually prescribe antibiotics for 10-14 days at which point the breakout has usually cleared up. I would recommend seeing your vet to do these things as well-Lala will be much more comfortable without pustules. I hope this helps!

The lesion on Luna's face may be a bacterial infection, a fungal infection known as ringworm or due to a skin mite known as Demodex. Luna will need to see a veterinarian for an exam and a skin scrape to determine the correct diagnosis. Treatment is very different for each condition and they can all look similar, so testing needs to be done to be sure.

Hello, thank you for your question about Sequoia. Based on what you are describing it sounds like she may be dealing with puppy pyoderma/impetigo, secondary to a bacterial skin infection. This is not an uncommon infection in puppies. Depending on the severity this condition is treating with topical skin cleansers or if severe can require antibiotics. It sounds like Sequoia's condition may be more mild and respond to gentle cleansing, however I would recommend consulting with your veterinarian so that they can decide if Sequoia needs a course of antibiotics to help these lesions resolve.
