Why does my 8-week-old puppy have dry skin lumps and a lip bubble?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Those look like pustules (pockets of infection). Luna probably has a bacterial skin infection. This is common in puppies because they do not have a strong immune system. I recommend taking Luna to a vet for a closer look and antibiotics. Good luck and kisses to Luna!

This is a skin fold dermatitis (inflammation) likely to be caused by an infection. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any). The lesion on Luna's face may be a bacterial infection, a fungal infection known as ringworm or due to a skin mite known as Demodex. Luna will need to see a veterinarian for an exam and a skin scrape to determine the correct diagnosis. Treatment is very different for each condition and they can all look similar, so testing needs to be done to be sure.

It is difficult to say for sure with just a picture but it looks like a pustule. This is common in puppies and is called puppy pyoderma. It will usually heal on its in it occasionally they will get more of them and will need oral antibiotics. Watch it closely and make sure it isn't getting bigger and make sure more aren't coming up. Also make sure she is eating, drinking and playing normally.

With his age I would be concerned about puppy pyoderma (bacterial skin infection common in young dogs) but a type of mange and secondary bacterial infection is also possible. If this is mange then his skin won't clear without treating both diseases. There is also a possibility of ringworm. Your veterinarian could do an exam and go over in detail the tests for those diseases and treatment options. Alternatively some try an OTC pet medicated shampoo but if the skin doesn't clear up then a visit to the veterinarian is needed.

I am sorry to hear about your puppy! These look like they could be pustules, or little pockets of infection. We can also occasionally see things like ringworm (a fungus) cause raised lesions, or foreign bodies like grass awns that migrate into the skin and cause swelling and infection. It is definitely odd! I would recommend bringing her to a veterinarian for an exam, as she may need to have the areas drained/tested and may need antibiotics to treat this.
