Why are my 13-day-old puppies' stools loose, yellow, and with white bits?

We usually recommend administering a deworming product to puppies starting at 2 weeks of age. This should take care of the problem. Take care.

Hello, congratulations on your puppies. In general they can have waxing and waning stool consistencies when they are this young. Most common causes for stool changes in puppies include parasites, dietary indiscretions, or changes in their GI tracts as they develop. Currently they are too young to deworm, however, as long as they are continuing to eat then you may keep monitoring them for any lethargy, worsening soft stools or diarrhea, or parasites in their feces. If you note any of these then contact your veterinarian to have them evaluated sooner. Otherwise, continue to allow them to nurse and begin to offer wet puppy food at 4-6 weeks of age. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Loose stools can be a sign of various different conditions. These include parasites/worms, other infectious agents (coccidia, giardia) poor food quality, viruses, bacteria from eating garbage or raw meat, food intolerance/allergy (less likely in such a young puppy), or underlying organ diseases such as liver disease, etc. Since Europe is happy, healthy and eating, the most likely cause is either that you are feeding raw meat, or even more likely, a worm that wasn't covered by your dewormer. I recommend you have a fecal sample taken to your vet to check it for eggs and other things like coccidia and giardia. Treatments for these are different so getting an answer is important. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Soft stools can be normal as they transition from formula to kibble or canned food. If she is otherwise doing well, this may be ok. If it ever becomes consistent diarrhea, have her evaluated by a veterinarian before her scheduled appointment. Keep in mind that it may be best to continue the formula until she is 6 weeks old. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry to hear Rusty isn't feeling well. I recommend taking Rusty to the vet with a fresh stool sample. There is a possibility he has microscopic intestinal parasites. This is common in puppies and causes diarrhea. I would not change his food as that is likely to make the loose stool worse. There is no deworming medicine that treats all parasites so even if he has been dewormed, it doesn't mean there isn't something there. Good luck and kisses to Rusty!

Hi there, I wouldn't be worried about one stool like this, but if it worsens or there is any vomiting, disinterest in food, or lethargy, that would warrant an emergency exam for a pup his age. Parvovirus is of serious concern if he is not fully vaccinated. If his stools remain soft but he is otherwise well, I'd recommend calling your regular veterinarian. They may recommend an exam or prescribe probiotics or a diet change if they have already seen Cliff. Puppies his age are generally dewormed every two weeks to eliminate all the life cycles of the most common parasites. I hope this is helpful. Hello, Arlo should still be fed some formula in addition to wet or moistened dry puppy food. This could be in addition to the rice and boiled egg. I would substitute the mild for formula. The liv.52 syrup is no necessary if you are feeding him a balanced diet. The stools may continue to be soft and yellow if the diet is not consistent, if he has any parasites (as he is still too young to be dewormed) or if the meal is hard to digest (too much fat or fiber). Try adding some puppy food and formula for two weeks and see how he responds. Best of luck and hope this helps.
