My puppy has loose stools after reintroducing kibble. What to do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Ralph isn’t feeling well. I recommend taking him to a vet right away. Puppies that age are at risk for dehydrating when they vomit and have loose stools. I would be concerned Ralph could have parvovirus or intestinal parasites. A vet can test him for both and treat as necessary. If he’s dehydrated he will need IV fluids. Also medications to stop the vomiting. Good luck and kisses to Ralph!

Loose stools can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. This is not likely at all to be due to you taking the temperature. It is possible that this is just from eating the bone which could have caused some mild gastrointestinal upset. If no improvement is noted in the next 48 hours or he develops diarrhea, I recommend that you have Cooper evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’d bring a collective stool sample from the puppies to the vet to check for parasites especially coccidia. You can start deworming the puppies at 2 weeks with pyrantel but that doesn’t get coccidia. Continue to weigh them daily. Their stool otherwise can be influenced by Lulu’s diet and any medications she maybe on. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!

It is most likely due to the food change. Puppies can also have intestinal parasites, so it is always recommended to have a stool sample checked on Kylo. Your veterinarian can also give medication to help resolve the stool quicker and easier. They also can dispense a bland diet to help resolve it. Poor Aiko! Some of the most common causes for soft stools in puppies are GI parasites, the addition of new foods or treats without a transition period, and stress. The fact that the stools are sometimes firm makes me a bit less concerned that this is a more serious cause, but we should investigate what the problem may be. Firstly, I would recommend having a stool sample submitted to your vet to look for parasites. Vomiting and loose stools can sometimes be a sign of gastrointestinal parasites. Secondly, Aiko should be eating a well-balanced puppy diet. New treats and foods should be slowly added to his diet. Avoid items with high fat as this sometimes causes tummy upset. Make sure he isn't eating things he shouldn't be. Puppies have pretty sensitive stomachs. Excessive stress and/or exercise can sometimes cause loose stools too. For today, withhold any treats so his tummy can settle. Offer him his next meal and see if he is still vomiting. If so, you should call your vet. Hopefully, this problem can be resolved soon! I recommend taking Shinzo to a vet so they can look at his stools under a microscope. It is likely he has intestinal parasites and they will need to know which ones to get him on the correct medications. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! How frustrating! I think that Nova is allergic to the dog food. I would change brands or meat protein. Animals can develop GI or skin allergies to their food at anytime. Be sure that you have had a fecal tested for parasites and he has been dewormed well. Since he is young parasites are high on the list and I still deworm them even if the stool sample is negative. I hope this helps!
