Puppy limping, vomiting, and raspy breathing: When to see a vet?

It sounds as Rexi is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him back to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to have a blood test done and possibly also an xray, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if it's something more serious, he should stay hospitalized ate the vet's.

I would definitely take him to see your vet. He may have a hidden injury, the shifting lameness could indicate a condition affecting his bones called panosteitis, which is seen in growing puppies, usually large breeds. Since he's feeling poorly overall, I think the sooner he sees the vet, the better. Your vet will do an exam, probably labwork and x-rays, and based on these results, will be better able to inform you about your dog's condition and how best to treat it.

It's possible that he's in a considerable amount of pain, as this could be causing not only his limping, but also his lethargy, appetite loss and heavier breathing. After a physical exam, the vet will be able to recommend any necessary diagnostic tests, which may include x-rays of the affected leg and/or his chest. The vomiting is likely unrelated and could be due to gastroenteritis for example. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. A complete physical exam by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER would be recommended if symptoms persist for more than 24 hours. Poor Razor sounds like he has a couple of things going on at the moment. It could be he strained or torn a ligament causing him to limp, and he's definitely in pain if he's limping. The cough could be caused by a respiratory infection or cardiac disease. I would rest him tonight. No running, jumping, or playing. Do not let him on the bed, having him sleep on the floor. Take him out to toilet on a leash and bring him right back in when he's done. I would then take him into the vet in the morning for a physical exam, lameness exam, and possibly x-rays. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms and how best to treat them. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. The two may or may not be related. It is hard to say. However if they are related then he will likely have a fever. You can check his rectal temperature and it should be between 100-102.5 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is high then I would suspect an infectious disease (tick borne disease), congenital bone disorder (femoral head necrosis) or septic arthritis could be causing Ollie's symptoms. Having some baseline bloodwork and a complete physical exam is a good place to start in trying to narrow down the possible causes of his ailment. If he is otherwise stable and eating, drinking normal, and able to go urinate and defecate normally, then he may be able to wait until morning to be seen by a vet. However, if he has pale gums, is lame to the point of being non-responsive, or starts vomiting excessively, then he needs to go to an ER vet right away. Best case scenario is that he has a muscle sprain and also had an upset stomach from something he ate. These would be easily treatable through the vet. You can try to offer him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to help settle his stomach tonight.
