My 4-month-old puppy is lying around but still eating. Is she sick?

She might just be a little bit extra tired this morning. If it continues than she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause, especially if you notice any lethargy, decreased appetite. vomiting, diarrhea, or fever.

For puppies that are still eating and drinking but lethargic and no signs of GI issues I would be suspicious of a couple of things: 1) puppy is just sleeping more now because he is still growing, Pitt Bull terriers and other large breed dogs can go through pretty fast growth spurts and this can definitely cause pups to sleep more. 2) If puppy is overly lethargic and running out of breathe easily or becoming intolerant to exercise or play I would be suspicious of a cardiovascular abnormality. I would recommend you schedule an appointment to have a vet do a heart auscultation (listen to the heart with microscope) to ensure your pets heart does not have any arrhythmia's or murmurs.

From the sign you are describing it is quite difficult to determine the underlying problem. General signs of lethargy could be commonly due to high temperature which may be related to an infection. In puppies gastrointestinal and urinary tract infections are by far the most common type of infections. If the signs do not resolve in the next 24hours or if Luna is showing any inappetence, more evident lethargy or any other signs (vomiting and diarrhoea for example) I would strongly advice a veterinary check up.

Hello. Puppies do sleep a lot. As long as Sky has periods of activity & is eating well, at least 3 times a day, & has regular eliminations, no diarrhea, then he is not probably overtly ill. But if he is suddenly acting sleepy when he was a more active pup, then this is not normal & he probably needs to be evaluated by your veterinarian. It does appear the Mia may be feeling it a bit off, but I wouldn't get too worried just yet. It could be the weather if it's warm where you are, so she could be generally unwell. Given that she did eat and had some water, I wouldn't take her into a vet just yet. Keep an eye on her over the weekend, and if she's still acting off on Monday, then have her seen by a vet on Monday. If she develops other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, stops eating, and/or stops drinking, then I would be worried and bring her into a vet sooner. I hope this helps and she feels better soon!

If she is the complete opposite than she was before, there is a good chance that there is a medical explanation for this, but because the symptoms are so general it would be hard to give you a possible diagnosis, the best way would be to take her to the vet for a checkup, she is probably dew to a vaccine anyway real soon.

Congrats on your new puppy! It can be anxious getting a new puppy, and I get that. Puppies do sleep a lot, but you want to see periods of where Pepper is playing. She should be active and running around when awake. If she is slow moving, doesn't want to play, doesn't want to wake up, that is not normal. Also not eating, vomiting, and diarrhea are signs of being ill. If you see any of those signs, have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!
