My 9-week-old puppy is lethargic and shaking. What should I do?

If this is unusual behavior for your dog I would be concerned that there's something wrong. Shaking and lethargy can be indicative of pain, anxiety or that the pet just isn't feeling well. I would recommend that you take her to be seen by your regular veterinarian. A thorough examination will help determine what may be wrong and how to make her feel better

All these signs are very concerning and point to a possible viral infection or metabolic disease. You need to take your dog to a veterinarian or PetER right away as he may be having a serious infection that needs to be tended to. Distemper comes to mind, a liver shunt and/or meningitis.

If he is still acting so lethargic, I would recommend putting karo syrup (or maple syrup or honey) on his gums and he will need to see an emergency veterinarian. If he is back to normal now, monitor him closely and apply the syrup if you ever notice these signs in him again. Provide kibble for him at all times so that he never goes long between meals. Poor Jackson! He could be shaking from pain, which would also cause him to be lethargic. At his age, it could be that he is suffering from arthritis. I would rest him tonight, and then have Jackson seen by a vet first thing tomorrow if he's still shaking and acting lethargic. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can treat him for them.

Your poor pup sounds ill! Without seeing him in person, I can't say what is causing his symptoms, but it could be due to a systemic infection or injury to name a few things. The best thing to do for him is to take him into a vet as soon as possible. I hope this helps!

From the sign you are describing it is quite difficult to determine the underlying problem. General signs of lethargy could be commonly due to high temperature which may be related to an infection. In puppies gastrointestinal and urinary tract infections are by far the most common type of infections. If the signs do not resolve in the next 24hours or if Luna is showing any inappetence, more evident lethargy or any other signs (vomiting and diarrhoea for example) I would strongly advice a veterinary check up.
