My puppy's irritated & nervous after cream & rabies shot. What to do?

Poor Brandi! You can try putting a cold compress on the spot where she received her vaccine to see if that helps. Leave it on for five minutes at a time a couple of times during the day. If you are concerned she is very painful, I would take her back into the vet for some pain medications. Unfortunately many human pain medications are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given, and it's illegal for me to prescribe any drugs for her without seeing her in person. Good luck!

Oh no. Poor guy. It looks like he is having a superficial pyoderma ("hot spot") reaction to his skin following the injection, and maybe even a bit of cellulitis. You will need to unfortunately take Lucky back to the vet to get this treated with oral antibiotics, and also oral pet friendly anti-inflammatory medication. The topicals aren't going to be enough to help this resolve. You can clean the area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to keep it clean. You should definitely also keep the e-collar on him until this has resolved or at least until it is no longer bothering him. I am sorry your fur baby had such a bad reaction and hope that this can be avoided in the future. Best wishes and take care!

Poor Mukku! This could be an allergic reaction the vaccine or it could be unrelated. Due to the potential for a reaction, I recommend to have him checked by his veterinarian. He may get an anti-inflammatory as well as a medicated shampoo. I hope he starts feeling better quickly!

It sounds like she could have had a vaccine reaction as they typically happen soon after being administeted the vaccine. Your vet will likely want to give her injections or steroids and diphenhydramine, and may keep an eye on her to make sure the swelling goes down. In the future she may need pre-medication prior to being vaccinated to avoid another reaction.

It sounds like Georgia is having an allergic reaction. You should be giving her the antihistamine every 8 hours and try washing the affected area with an antibacterial hand soap (rinse it well). You can continue to apply to anti-itch cream twice daily (but make sure she is not licking it!), so make her wear an elizabethan collar if you need to. Try this treatment for 3-5 days. If it is not improving or if it is getting worse, then take her in to see her vet. The doctor has stronger medications that are sometimes needed for allergic reactions. I hope this helps!

I would recommend taking Red to a veterinarian. With the history provided it may indicate allergies. Her skin looks very irritated and after a physical is performed to determine if this is the cause there is plenty of options for allergies in dogs. The first thing is clearing the infection which can include antibiotics, anti-fungals and/or shampoos. The next step is treating the allergies. This can be done by anti-histamines, steroids or two newer treatments one is pills called apoquel and then other is a 4-8 week injection called cytopoint. Allergies can be caused by environmental factors, which its sounds like could be part of the issue due to the recent move to the country but it can also be caused by food allergies. I would discuss this with your veterinarian and make a treatment plan with what is best for you and Red. If after a physical it doesn't appear to be allergies it could also be some type of mite on Red's skin. If your veterinarian feels it is more from mites a skin scraping would be performed to confirm this. Some mites are extremely difficult to find and sometimes even if no mites are found treatment is still initiated. Hi and thanks for posting. Lexi may have had a small abscess from the vaccine that drained and is now healing or it may be a location reaction to the vaccine. It is hard to say without examining Lexi first. If your veterinarian has told you it was from the vaccine, then I would follow your veterinarian's instructions for care of the wound. If it looks red, inflamed, has discharge coming from the area, or changes in any way, it may be infected and will need a reassessment by your veterinarian.
