My puppy's hind leg rash won't go away. Should I be concerned?

Puppies have very sensitive skin, and that can leave them prone to skim infection. I suspect that Willow has puppy pyoderma (a skin infection). You need to have her seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated.

What cute pups! Its possible there could be a parasite causing some skin irritation. Fleas would be a possibility, but also demodectic mange which is caused by mites that normally live on the skin but can get out of control when dogs are immune suppressed as in pregnancy. It may improve on its own as the pups get bigger but she may need to see a vet for treatment.

From the pictures, it could be that Zeus has a rash from a contact allergy, or this could be hives. Try giving him an oatmeal bath tonight to see if that helps with it. If it does not help with this skin problem or it gets worse, I would have him seen by a vet as soon as possible. There is a common condition called puppy pyoderma that appear like pimples in between the back legs and on the abdomen. It tends to go away on its own but it is important to keep an eye on it. As long as it is not worsening, I would wait and simply show your veterinarian in when you are next in for vaccines.

Poor Buddy! Rashes can occur due to many reasons that often include allergeries, mites or fleas. Definitely make sure Buddy cannot lick or scratch at the rash by having him wear an elizabethan collar at all times. A mild rash may respond to treatment at home. Wash the rash every day with hand soap and rinse it well. Once it’s dry, you can rub in a dab of coconut oil once daily. If the rash is more severe or if it’s not getting better after a few days, Buddy may need to see his veterinarian for medications.
