My 5-week-old puppy has a hard tummy & is in pain. Vets are closed!

If she is yelling in pain I highly recommend bringing her to a veterinarian so they can provide pain medication. Most over the counter medications are toxic to dogs. She needs a veterinarian to help diagnose her and treat her. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

I have no idea what over the counter medications you have available to you in Germany that you could possibly give her. I suggest you just leave her be and call your vet for a recommendation when they are open. Do not give her anything to eat for 6-8 hours but access to water is fine. Her stomach and GI tract need a bit of time to rest.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I see this sort of thing quite commonly in small dogs and the question always is: is it stomach pain or back pain. These little guys can easily hurt their backs and so they tense their abdominal muscles. They also don’t want you to touch them for fear it might tweak their back even more. Because we don’t know yet, I’d refrain from giving anything tonight as we don’t want to interfere with whatever your vet decides to give tomorrow. Tramadol is a safe pain medication but it can slow the GI tract so let’s skip it for now. For tonight, just let Rigby rest alone. Best of luck to you and Rigby!

Poor Clementine! There could be a couple of things causing her pain. I'm not sure if she is spayed or not, but if she is intact, then it could be she has a pyometra causing her pain. A pyometra is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. It could also be that she has injured herself, has pancreatitis, or could have a tumor. Because I can't see her in person to rule these things out, which are extremely serious, I think it's best she sees a vet now. The vet can diagnose the cause of her pain, and can treat her for it. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

First off, do not give Sadie aspirin. It can cause internal bleeding and kidney damage, and it is never recommended to give to a dog unless strictly prescribed by a vet. There are no safe OTC pain relievers for dogs. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. I would call around to find another vet who is open and who can see her, as she sounds extremely painful. Until you find a vet who is open, keep her quiet and rested, and do not move her unless it's necessary.

It sounds very suspicious of a uterine infection, she might need an urgent surgery, if she is in severe pain and very lethargic you should probably not wait until tomorrow. If she is stable just keep her still and don't touch the belly area, that is all that you can do.

I'm sorry Cash isn't doing well! Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him. Many human ones are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. If he's bloated, that's medical emergency as bloat is fatal without treatment. My advice is to take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies.
