Why is my 5-month-old puppy losing hair and has crusty skin?

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 4 days old

My 5 month old pup started losing hair around eyes and has now got crusty black skin across bridge of nose and behind ears.

Buddy may have a mite infection (demodicosis) or a bacterial/fungal skin infection. I suggest you make an appointment with your veterinarian for a skin exam, possibly some diagnostics (skin swab, culture or biopsy) and relevant treatment.

    Hi there. Bald spots can be due to various things. Most common causes in puppies are demodex mites, ringworm and allergies.

    He will need to have his skin tested for these causes to determine what is going on. Once a diagnosis is made, these can all be easily treated.
