Hello. I would really recommend having Betsy examined by your veterinarian. My guess is this is demodectic mange & this can be easily diagnosed with a simple procedure called a skin scrape. Hello. Hair loss in a puppy can be a concern if it is excessive. The first thing we want to rule out is external parasites like fleas & mange mites ( Demodex & Sarcoptic ). Bacterial & yeast-based infections & allergies are also a possibility. You can bathe Blu in a flea shampoo to eliminate the possibility of fleas, but if she is intensely itchy & continues to lose hair, you will need to see your veterinarian for a diagnosis. Hello. Your puppy may have mange, but this sounds a bit more like something we call puppy pyoderma, a staph infection in the skin. Seen often in puppies, it is from a puppy having a weak & immature immune system. I would see your veterinarian about this because it requires skin scrapes to rule out mange, & cytology to confirm the presence of the skin bacteria that causes the lesions. Whatever the cause, your veterinarian will recommend a treatment until King gets a little older & is able to fight these situations off by himself. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. At such a young age, skin parasites are high on my list as the possible cause. This requires anti-parasite medication to treat Browny with. In the US we use products such as Bravecto and Nexgard to treat skin mites, so something comparable should help with a mite infestation. He may also be dealing with a bad bacterial skin infection in addition to the mites or as its own primary problem. He may also need a 2-3 week course of an oral antibiotic and medicated shampoo such as Douxo PS Chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolved. I would talk to your veterinarian about skin mites as the possible cause, a skin infection or allergies as the cause. If he does not have skin mites or a skin infection, this could certainly be a severe allergy such as Atopic Dermatitis. With Atopic Dermatitis, certain medications like Atopica or Cytopoint can prove to be quite beneficial and helpful at eliminating or reducing the clinical signs.
