My puppy is hacking and coughing white foam. What else could it be?

It could be a respiratory infection, it could be a collapsing trachea, it could be kennel cough, or it could be something more serious like heart disease. I'd have her seen by a vet in the morning for this problem. The vet can diagnose what is causing it, and can treat her. I hope this helps!

Hello. Is the hacking constant, accompanied by any retching? This is not good if she is & probably needs to see a vet tonight. If not, are her gums a nice bubble gum pink? This is a good sign. Will she take a little food or water? This too is a good sign. Weigh the signs & see if this might just be some kind of tracheal irritation. Sometimes a teaspoon of honey every couple of hours can be very soothing. See how she does over the next hour or so & if you are at all concerned, it is always best to be safe than sorry, but if she seems pretty comfortable you can see how the honey works for her. Heart failure, respiratory infections, collapsing trachea, allergies, etc. Can cause coughing. It best to have a veterinarian examine Aurora to rule out different causes. What you describe sounds a lot like symptoms of canine infectious tracheobronchitis, also known as kennel cough. If she has been exposed to any other dogs, such as groomer, dog park, boarding facility, newly adopted dogs etc within the last 2 Weeks then this would be high on my list of concerns. Kennel cough is often self limiting. However if no exposure known then I would be more Concerned about issues such aspiration pneumonia, object lodged in throat, heart disease, and heart worm. Coughing is always concerning to me and I would highly encourage you to have Pinky evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. She may have a cold or kennel cough. They get this from other dogs and it causes a lot of coughing and often some nasal discharge. When dogs cough they also sometimes vomit a small amount as a result so I'm not overly concerned about the vomiting if Rainey is otherwise normal. Keep her quiet to reduce the coughing, and away from other dogs as this can be infectious. She should be better in a few days to a weeek or so. It also could be due to a throat irritation from eating the bark and other items. Same thing though, with time this should resolve on its own. If she should get worse and stops eating or starts more vomiting then it's time for a veterinary exam and treatment. It sounds as Teyla is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

I would recommend switching to a gentle leader collar and avoid placing a collar on him for the next 3 to 5 days. If it continues or worsens I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
