My puppy has green blisters near her private area. Is she in pain?

Congrats on your new puppy! I'm sorry that Bob seems to have pimples in his genital area. Bruises do not contain pus, so these pimples that he has are not bruises if there is pus. I would not squeeze them, as that can cause the infection to spread (pus is a sign of infection). Bob may have a skin infection known as puppy pyoderma, which can be common in puppies. It can be treated by medications from the vet, so I would have him seen by a vet to diagnose if he is suffering from puppy pyoderma and to get medications to treat it.

These lesions in a puppy could be linked to a variety of skin conditions such as flea allergy, mites and mange, among others. Even though food allergy is possible, it seems less likely at this time. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these conditions to try to direct therapy at the specific cause. From the picture and your description, these lesions are likely also secondarily infected by bacteria. Most of these conditions are treatable so you will see an improvement in Sally's condition fairly quickly when treated appropriately. Good luck!

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thank your for sending those pictures. The areas around her chin and body do look inflamed and infected. This may be due to a bacterial infection, mite infection, or due to an underlying allergy. I would recommend she see her veterinarian as soon as possible. Your veterinarian may do skin scraping to check for mites and may prescribe a course of antibiotics or other medications as necessary. Your veterinarian may also send you home with topical antimicrobial wipes and shampoo as well. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

If your puppy is not itchy and the blisters are not bothering him at all, you should keep an eye on him for the next 8-12hrs. Allergic reactions like that often disappear within 6-12hrs. However, if Johny becomes unwell, itchy and lethargic, please take him to your local vets.

This could be a sign of puppy pyoderma, trauma (is she licking the area a lot?), insect bites, or signs of a viral infection/fever, rodenticide ingestion, a congenital or acquired disorder affecting the platelet's ability to adhere to damaged blood vessels. If these blood "blisters" keep enlarging or do not go away within a few days, you will need to consult your veterinarian. The vet will perform a thorough physical examination. Lab tests will be necessary such as a complete blood count, biochemistry profile, and urinalysis and possibly a coagulation panel. There is no specific treatment for those blood filled skin lesions, however it is important to find the underlying cause, which then can be addressed. So, I suggest you monitor the skin and if the lesions enlarge, or if they do not go away within a few days or spread, you take your puppy to your veterinarian. If your puppy gets pale gums it is an emergency and your pup needs to be seen at an ER right away.

You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If the green substance after urinating continues to be present, she should also be evaluated by a veterinarian as that may be a sign of an infection. Good luck and have a good night!

It sounds like he has a bacterial skin infection (puppy pyoderma). You could bathe him with a medicated dog shampoo but he may need an antibiotic and possibly a corticosteroid to treat the problem. Have your vet take a look at him to determine the best way to treat his problem.
