My puppies have fleas and scabs. How can I treat them effectively?

Great question! Flea collars are not very effective, as you are seeing unfortunately. I can give you an effective flea treatment program for Indy. First, I would give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment, as it will be a continuing source of fleas if you don't. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!

It doesn't say it's safe for puppies on the packaging, so no I would not use it. It won't work anyway, these "natural" collars do nothing. I would apply Revolution on Princess. It's a spot on treatment that works great, and has been tested to prove it's safe on puppies six weeks of age. I hope this helps!

It does sound that is a flea you saw. It is not uncommon for puppies to have fleas and have scabs and bumps from scratching from the irritation of a flea bite. You can try a bath in baby shampoo or dawn dish soap as this help kills fleas on puppies to young for flea shampoos and flea prevention. You can gently brush the scab to loosen the debris and apply Neosporin to it when dry. You can talk to your vet about proper flea control base on his age and weight to prevent this in the future

Flea treatment shouldn't cause too much more irritation to the skin, especially since it is mostly given just at the base of the head and no where else, if properly administered. I would recommend Revolution topical (Rx), because in my opinion it is the most effective and reliable treatment for fleas in cats. If Oliver has an overabundance of fleas on him and you need extra protection, then I would recommend giving him a Capstar (Nitenpyram) tablet 1 hr before applying the Revolution as a fast acting flea killer to reduce the flea load. Capstar kills all fleas on pets within 45 minutes after giving, then the Revolution is there to prevent further fleas from bothering him.

I recommend to see your veterinarian for medication called Revolution. While any pecan have a reaction to anything, Revolution seems to be very safe for very small and very young pets. You will need to treat her for 6 months. I hope this helps.

If he is up to date on his flea treatment, I recommend taking him into the vet for an exam today or tomorrow. The vet can do blood tests, skin scrapings, and use a Wood's lamp to diagnose allergies, mites, and ringworm. Once the cause of the itching is found, the vet can prescribe the appropriate treatment. I am so sorry Koda is having this issue. There are other options then flea collars and topicals to help get rid of and prevent fleas. You can use pills. The pills require a prescription so you would have to make an appointment with your veterinarian. Regarding the scabs, this can be a secondary bacterial infection that might require oral antibiotics and/or a medicated shampoo. I would recommend bringing Koda to the veterinarian to have them evaluate his skin. Regarding your home, it can take 3 months to kill the flea cycle and at home cleaning is super important.
