My puppy is biting. How old does she need to be for a flea collar?

Flea collars do not work very well and some are toxic if ingested. I don't recommend using them on puppies, in case it falls off and the puppy tries to eat the collar. I recommend using a monthky product, like NexGard, Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution. You will also need to treat your house with an appropriate flea product.

It doesn't say it's safe for puppies on the packaging, so no I would not use it. It won't work anyway, these "natural" collars do nothing. I would apply Revolution on Princess. It's a spot on treatment that works great, and has been tested to prove it's safe on puppies six weeks of age. I hope this helps!

For one, Hartz products are not very good quality, do not work well, and there have been many reports of adverse effects from use on puppies and dogs. Plus, flea collars do not work well to prevent fleas. I personally recommend using a spot on treatment such as Advantage or Revolution. Both of them work extremely well and are safe to use on Haydee.

Pretty much all of the OTC flea medications are safe for 7 month-old puppies. There are several options, such a monthly topicals, flea collars, or a Seresto collar. Flea shampoos don't work well at all. Prescription oral flea preventative seem to work the best, in my opinion, so I would recommend that Grace be checked out by a vet so she can get started on one of these. Please know that it can take several months of consistent treatment to get rid of a flea infestation. Fleas don't live on the dog, they only jump on at bedtime. So, if you see a 2 or 3 fleas on Grace at one time, then there could be 20-30 fleas off of her, laying eggs to make new fleas! Bella Marie would benefit from a small breed puppy food. There are many brands available, those made by Hills, Purina and Royal Canin have veterinarians on staff to ensure their diets are well balanced and nutritionally adequate. I do not recommend flea collars-they do nothing for control of the overall flea population, are not very effective and, in a small dog like Bella Marie, run the risk of toxicity as well. Instead speak with your vet about which flea preventatives are most effective in your local area. There are a number of topical and oral forms available and I'm sure you will find one that suits your needs.

The only flea collar that appears to work well is the Seresto collar. And even then, I can have a slower rate of kill for the fleas. The top products on the market our oral products such as some Perica and next guard. For most pets, these are good options that I recommend to call your veterinarian first and doublecheck. Great question! Flea collars are not very effective, as you are seeing unfortunately. I can give you an effective flea treatment program for Indy. First, I would give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment, as it will be a continuing source of fleas if you don't. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!
