Confused about my small puppy's first vaccines. What's the schedule?

They should get the vaccines every 3 weeks until the three rounds are completed. Make sure the puppies get the distemper/parvo vaccine especially. You local veterinarian may also recommend other vaccines based on disease prevalence in your area. Until the puppies are fully vaccinated, you will want to avoid any areas where other dogs are using the bathroom since this increases the likelihood of parvo. Avoiding contact with other dogs who are either sick or not fully vaccinated is also important. Fully vaccinated dogs should be fine. Also check with your veterinarian about deworming, other parasites and spaying/neutering. I hope this helps.

Most puppies will get their first set of vaccines around 8-10 weeks of age depending on when they were weaned from mom and if they've had any previous vaccines. It is a good idea to set up an initial new puppy appointment with your vet anyway to establish a baseline of health, meet your new vet, and get started on any other procedures including vaccines, deworming, etc. Your vet can also help go over a schedule appropriate for Unique's needs. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I recommend contacting a local veterinarian in your area to have Venom seen for a "new puppy" appointment. At this appointment, the veterinarian will perform an exam, and can make recommendations for first vaccines, flea, tick and heartworm preventatives, as well as appropriate diet and socialization. Dogs require both "distemper" (DAPP) vaccines as well as rabies vaccines. These are the two core vaccines for dogs. These need to be boostered (given again) in 3-4 weeks following the first shot. There are other vaccines such as lyme and leptospirosis that can be considered depending on Venom's potential exposure. I hope this is helpful!

Vaccine recommendations to partially depend upon his lifestyle and where you live. Also, that second vaccine should have been given in a 2 to 4 week window from the initial vaccine. If it was given later than four weeks after the first vaccine, he will need booster vaccines within a 2 to 4 week window. Assuming he was given the vaccines at the appropriate time, Kai should get another DHLPP and a rabies vaccine. If he gets groomed, goes to the park or has contact with other dogs in general, you may consider getting a kennel cough vaccine. Other vaccines are for Lyme disease and Influenza (dog flu). Your local veterinarian can discuss if these diseases are present in your area and what potential risk factors exist. You may be able to find lower cost vaccinations at a low-cost vaccine clinic or a vaccine clinic in general. You can generally find information online. Hello, and thanks for your question. I agree, this document is quite confusing! It looks like Cali has been dewormed a few times and received her DHPP (distemper/parvovirus combination) on 3/16 and again on 3/28. This vaccine should be boostered every 3-4 weeks until after 16 weeks of age. Cali will also need her rabies vaccine between 12-16 weeks of age. Your vet can discuss what other vaccines are recommended for your area and Cali’s exposure risk. Hope this helps!

The ideal vaccination series should have 2 combination vaccines given after 12 weeks with the final vaccine between 16-20 vaccines. I would also recommend having these vaccines given by a veterinarian or at least purchased from a veterinarian. Vaccines from a feed store can be mis-handled and therefore not be active when given. This would leave Violet susceptible to contagious and possibly fatal diseases.
