Why is my 3-week-old puppy's eye partially open with discharge?

i have a 3week old puppy and one eye is fully open but her left eye doesnt seem to be opened fully and she appears to have a little white discharge i have been bathing it

The eyes typically open between 1-2 weeks of age. If the one is still closed and there is discharge then an exam with your vet is strongly recommended to diagnose infection, injury or congenital defect.

It depends on how this puppy was delivered. If she was born by C-section and the surgery was done a bit before full term, it may take a few days more for her to open her eyes. However, the discharge is a bit concerning, as it may indicate a problem with the developing eyes. I would get this checked by your vet right away.

If she is nursing well and alert otherwise then it is less concerning and would point more to an eye injury or infection (conjunctivitis) which will need treatment. If she is weak and not wanting to nurse or interact then she needs to be seen by a vet immediately.m to see what is going on. You can try bathing very gently with cooled, boiled saline and cotton wool but do not pull or pry them open. It is not impossible for pups to be born with no or deformed eyes and a full vet check would be recommended if not opening within the next 72hours

If she is weak and not doing well then she needs to be seen by a vet to determine the cause. She could have an infection, parasite, or congenital abnormality. Your vet may be able to prescribe medications to help. You are going to need to continue to supplement her with a puppy milk replacer if she is not eating on her own. Hope she gets better soon!

Hello, she may still be working on opening her eyes on her own and is just a little slower than the rest of the clan. I would not recommend putting anything in her eyes as it could be detrimental to any condition she may have. If she does not open her eyes readily or of she develops any discharge, scratches at her face, is not eating or drinking, then I would have her evaluated by a veterinarian. My 3-week-old puppy has a cloudy eye with a pink lump. What's wrong?

I recommend to get this puppy examined today. That eye looks inflamed and possibly infected. It's possible this is a congenital anomaly but the appearance of the eye looks suspicious for something is trapped in the eye (hair or or object) or that a virus has causes a painful corneal abrasion. The opacity may represent corneal edema which is very worrisome. It's possible he is in pain so get this addressed quickly. Best of luck.
