How can I get my puppy to drink more water if he seems dehydrated?

You can try giving Max canned food (it has a high moisture content), or you can add water to his dry food to get him to drink. I'd also get him a dog water fountain. It will provide a continual source of fresh water, and may encourage him to drink. I hope this helps!

If Biscuit is not drinking enough and is very dehydrated, she will need to be seen by an emergency veterinarian. There is no way that you can make her drink. You can try spooning some water into her, however, considering she is dehydrated, you cannot put enough fluid into her that way. Also being dehydrated is usually a sign of being ill, and that needs to be investigated as well. The vet will either give fluids under the skin to rehydrate or she may need intravenous fluids, if her condition is severe.

If you are feeding him canned puppy food that has a lot more water in it than dry puppy food. If you are still nervous about the amount his is drinking add water to his canned or dry food. He is very young at 1 month and doesn't require as much water as an older puppy yet. Be careful about how much water you add to his food though, you do not wanting him getting a full belly from just water and not food. I hope this helps!

You can add a lot of water to the canned food to make it a gruel based diet. I do have a few suggestions on what may help her consume more water. First, you may want to invest in a waterfall or water movement type of water bowl. These types of watering devices can help mimic a running faucet and studies have shown that animals will drink more from this type of device. Second, you could perhaps change the water you are giving. So for instance, if you are giving your pet well water, you would switch to city water or filtered water. First you will need to make sure that Bruno has a cool place, preferably with A/C. If he is dehydrated your veterinarian can give him fluids under the skin. Feed him some commercial tinned food available from your veterinarian or pet place and add water to it to make a soup or gruel. This will help to get fluid into him. He may have a more serious gastro-intestinal problem so if he is not eating nor drinking, take him back to your veterinary doctor or to another one for a second opinion. Do not offer him milk, or fruit juice, just plain cool fresh water to drink.

If the soft food is very wet he doesn't need to drink much water. You can put some water on your finger by the bowl to get him started or have a little bit of milk in the water so it tastes better.
