My puppy drank a little diluted detergent. Is it an emergency?

I would recommend taking Bailey to your local veterinary ER. These types of products can be quite irritating to the gastrointestinal tract and also have the potential to be toxic in other ways. The vet will do a thorough physical exam and look for any obvious symptoms. They may also recommend you contact the pet poison hotline to gather more information regarding treatment depending on the severity of the symptoms. At the least you can expect to be prescribed some medications to help protect Bailey’s stomach and intestines from the irritants in this product. She may need IV fluids and intensive hospital management if she develops significant gastrointestinal symptoms. Good luck, I hope Bailey comes through this ok.

I'm wondering how much of the detergent got into her mouth, as when the pod is punctured, the detergents are forcefully expelled and may be easily aspirated or swallowed, sometimes in large amounts. Oh that was naughty of Lolla to eat! It's good that you pulled it out before she had a chance to eat the whole thing, but the detergent in it can cause some stomach and esophagus irritation. I would flush out her mouth with water, and keep an eye on her for now. You may see some self-limiting GI signs, such as drooling, vomiting, or diarrhea. I would try a home remedy in case you see these GI signs. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. Should Lolla be unable to even keep down water, however, then I would take her into the vet as that shows severe stomach irritation and she will need a gut protectant. Hopefully because she ate only a little bit, she should be fine.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Domestos contains bleach. If it is not ultra concentrated and it was very dilute then the outcome is better. Usually symptoms start with in mins: drooling, red lips, irritation around the mouth, pawing around the mouth and vomiting if a lot is consumed. Bleach is corrosive causing irritation of the gums, esophagus and stomach. If the bleach you use is ultra concentrated then Harley should see a vet immediately. Otherwise if Harley got the bleach on his fur, bathe him in lots of water and mild soap. Rinse his mouth out with lots of water and encourage him to drink water. You can add chicken broth, tuna juice and even try some milk to encourage drinking. If he starts to show symptoms despite the above he should see a Vet. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

Check her mouth for excessive reddening. if it looks evenly pink then there is likely no problem, especially since she drank some water. if you see a lot of reddening, spots, lesions, take her to a vet right away.

Oh no, poor Bo! Wash his tail thoroughly, and keep watch on him for signs he ingested it. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, swollen abdomen, burns in the mouth, excessive drooling, disorientation, weakness, seizures, or collapse, take him into a vet immediately.
