My dog got laundry detergent on his tail. Should I call the vet?

Had should be okay, you may notice he starts to salivate quite a bit, but it doesnt sound like he ate too much. Keep an eye for signs of an upset tummy and if he seems very poorly take him to the vet.

These types of products may cause GI upset. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. Stomach ulceration is possible if a large quantity was ingested. Inducing vomiting at home is not recommended due to the alkalinity which may irritate the esophagus. Ideally, your dog should be seen by your vet or at the nearest veterinary ER. If this is not possible, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow plenty of water to dilute the Scent Boosters as much as possible. If your dog begins vomiting or showing other symptoms, he/she really needs to be seen by a vet.

This will be very painful to her, and there are no OTC pain medications you can give her. Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. She really should see a vet for this for pain medication, but to also make sure her tail isn't broken. Please take her into a vet now. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Domestos contains bleach. If it is not ultra concentrated and it was very dilute then the outcome is better. Usually symptoms start with in mins: drooling, red lips, irritation around the mouth, pawing around the mouth and vomiting if a lot is consumed. Bleach is corrosive causing irritation of the gums, esophagus and stomach. If the bleach you use is ultra concentrated then Harley should see a vet immediately. Otherwise if Harley got the bleach on his fur, bathe him in lots of water and mild soap. Rinse his mouth out with lots of water and encourage him to drink water. You can add chicken broth, tuna juice and even try some milk to encourage drinking. If he starts to show symptoms despite the above he should see a Vet. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

He may be experiencing symptoms of having a gastrointestinal obstruction though other things like dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, among other things could also be going on. For this reason, I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible to ensure that this does not become worse and to see if he will require therapy such as surgery if he is in fact having an obstruction. I would recommend taking Bailey to your local veterinary ER. These types of products can be quite irritating to the gastrointestinal tract and also have the potential to be toxic in other ways. The vet will do a thorough physical exam and look for any obvious symptoms. They may also recommend you contact the pet poison hotline to gather more information regarding treatment depending on the severity of the symptoms. At the least you can expect to be prescribed some medications to help protect Bailey’s stomach and intestines from the irritants in this product. She may need IV fluids and intensive hospital management if she develops significant gastrointestinal symptoms. Good luck, I hope Bailey comes through this ok.

From the MSDS for Tide to go: Low order of ingestion, may cause vomiting and diarrhea. I would not take Faith to the emergency vet right now. If you see that she starts having vomiting or diarrhea, make sure she gets plenty of fluids. If it lasts longer than 24 hours or she has a poor appetite, those would be reasons to a see a vet.
