What to do if my puppy has diarrhea, vomiting, and foamy drool?

Hi there. It sounds like your dog has a gastrointestinal infection which can be caused by bacteria, intolerance to something he ate, parasites or a virus. With the loose stool and continued drooling, I would recommend that you take him to a vet. They can do a physical exam and a fecal test and once they know what’s going on they can get him the treatment he needs to feel better. Poor Bailey! Withhold food for 8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. The diarrhea is likely related to whatever caused the vomiting. If she is not starting to improve though, she will need to be seen for a recheck. Being a puppy, I worry about her becoming dehydrated, especially if she continues to vomit. Your veterinarian can prescribe a nausea medication that may help her eat better and will stop the drooling. I hope this information helps.

I am very sorry to hear that Max is experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potentiall causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few hours I would continue to monitor Max at home. The foamy clear vomit you noticed is most likely the final contents of Max's now empty stomach; bike and stomach acids. It's not anything to be worried about. . Rest Max's gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for 12 hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. If Max does not improve, has sever vomiting or diarrhoea, you notice fresh blood, Max seems lethargic, in pain or depressed I would advise a trip to the veterinarian. Oh my. Poor guy. If he has a fever this can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection (i.e. Parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated). I would have him tested for parvovirus first and if that comes up negative he needs full panel bloodwork and a urinalysis. to fully evaluate him. He should be on antibiotics and fluid therapy to help bring down his fever. He also needs anti-vomit medication to prevent him from becoming dehydrated due to excessive vomiting. If his condition has not improved within 24-48 hrs, then you should consider having him hospitalized so that he can get around the clock care and treatment. Poor guy. I do hope that your pup Shadow is able to make a full and speedy recovery from his illness. For tonight you can try feeding him some slghly warmed up cans of baby food (meat and vegetables or squash) to try to entice him to eat. Nausea and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Lily evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start her on medications to make her feel better and check her hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration.
