Why did my vet give my puppy DHPP shots again after the breeder?

If at all possible you would want to take Chevy to a veterinarian so they can discuss the best vaccines and vaccination schedule for your area. She also needs a rabies shot and that has to be given by a licensed veterinarian or licensed technician. Vaccines given by your vet are tracked, handled and stored properly, and the manufacturer will stand behind the product if there is an adverse reaction or event. The problem with just buying the vaccine from a feed store or catalog raises the questions of shipping, storage conditions, quality of the product, and lack of back up from the manufacturer if something did happen. Vaccinations are vitally important to Chevy's health so they should be done by a professional so you can have piece of mind. I wish you the best.

We are a website for pet advice, so we cannot access records at Petco stores. You will need to call that Petco to see if you can get the records, but they may not release them to you because you weren't the owner when Hachi was originally brought it. Any reputable breeder would provide the papers proving that vaccines were given, and the fact that the breeder is refusing to give them to you make me suspicious he never got any vaccines. I would treat it like this second shot is his first shot, and do three total rounds of vaccines. It will not hurt him, and you don't want to take the risk that he didn't get his first shot, so only giving him two will not leave him fully vaccinated. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! When we do not have vaccine records, we start over. So Mickie needs a Rabies and two DHPP vaccines 3-4 weeks apart. The rabies and the DHPP final will be good for 1 year. I wish you the best

The ideal vaccination series should have 2 combination vaccines given after 12 weeks with the final vaccine between 16-20 vaccines. I would also recommend having these vaccines given by a veterinarian or at least purchased from a veterinarian. Vaccines from a feed store can be mis-handled and therefore not be active when given. This would leave Violet susceptible to contagious and possibly fatal diseases.

You are correct in finding that your puppy was not vaccinated properly. When vaccines are given too close together the body is unable to produce an adequate immune response and therefore the dog will not have proper immunity. I am sorry that you are going through this with your dog. Once your dog recovers I would recommend restarting his vaccination series so you can ensure that he is properly immunized I hope this helps. An initial vaccine should only be given after a full wellness check by a vet to ensure there are no concerns or contraindications and that the puppy is healthy enough to receive vaccines. Subsequent vaccines may be given by a vet check, or a suitably experienced person under a veterinary prescription. Be aware that any vaccines not given by a vet can it be certified should it be required for boarding etc

I would suspect Reese hasn't had his vaccines, and vets do not recognize home given vaccines as well. I would take him into a clinic to start his vaccine schedule. In addition, if he's 13 months, he should have had his rabies vaccines long ago, and that cannot be given at home. That can only be given by a vet, and there would be a record of it.
