My puppy is coughing up yellow fluid and won't drink. Is it serious?

Cough can be caused by an infection, heart problem or lung condition, it is important to first know the cause before treating it as treatment is different from condition to another. The most common disease causing cough is a viral infection called Kennel cough, this disease usually resolves without treatment within a couple weeks but if the cough is too severe it is recommended to go to the vet in order to get cough medicine and antibiotics.

In the meantime, you can turn the shower to hot and close the bathroom door. Allow the steam to build up in the room. Then place him in the bathroom to breathe the warm humid air. She may have a cold or kennel cough. They get this from other dogs and it causes a lot of coughing and often some nasal discharge. When dogs cough they also sometimes vomit a small amount as a result so I'm not overly concerned about the vomiting if Rainey is otherwise normal. Keep her quiet to reduce the coughing, and away from other dogs as this can be infectious. She should be better in a few days to a weeek or so. It also could be due to a throat irritation from eating the bark and other items. Same thing though, with time this should resolve on its own. If she should get worse and stops eating or starts more vomiting then it's time for a veterinary exam and treatment. Yellow vomit is termed "bile" and this is seen when the pet has an empty upset stomach. Sneezing can also be a sign of mild allergies or nasal parasites (not as common). If J.R. continues to vomit for more than 12-24 hrs and also has other signs of sickness (i.e. lack of energy, not holding down any food, lack of appetite), then it is best to get J.R. seen by your veterinarian for strong medical treatment and good physical exam. However if J.R. is still relatively active, happy and playful, you can try withholding food for 12-24 hrs then feeding him a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice or cottage cheese OR Purina EN Gastrointestinal. Hopefully this is enough to settle his stomach and get him back to normal.

I'm sorry to hear Sebastian is having issues. First, I would verify that he is vomiting, not regurgitating or coughing hard enough to bring up phlegm. Regurgitation is a sign of some congenital issues that would need to be evaluated by a veterinarian, and exposure to kennel cough can lead to coughing with phlegm production. If it is vomiting, and it worsens or does not resolve in 24hours or he starts acting ill then I would recommend he be evaluated by his veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his issue. Inhalation of even a small amount of milk in a tiny little puppy like this can be deadly if treatment is not instituted right away. Aspiration pneumonia is one of the most common causes of death in bottle babies. If you are noting significant coughing / choking, I would also keep an eye out for increased respiratory noises. This would include wheezing and raspy hoarse noises. If you hear this, it would probably be a good idea to stop feeding until you get him to the vet. At that point, the doctor will decide if providing additional nutrition orally is worth the risk, versus injectable nutrition. Hope this is help.

Poor Ron! The congestion and the vomiting could be related or it could be two separate problems. It sounds like he likely has a respiratory infection. I would see your vet for an exam and possible antibiotics. Your vet will be able to do X-rays if needed to ensure he hasn't developed pneumonia as well. The vomiting could be from swallowing a lot of mucus or it could be something's separate like a bscterial infection, viral infection, eating something he shouldn't, etc. Your vet will be able to help determine this as well eith the exam.
