My puppy can't sleep. Can I use catnip to calm him at night?

Catnip is not toxic to dogs but it generally causes sedation. I don't recommend however to give it intentionally to Shadow since there are not studies about how much might be too much and he is a little dog. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hello. There is nothing you might have at home that could safely make Pink sleepy. If she is keeping you up at night, you may need to really engage in some serious play time in the evening. You do not indicate how old she is, but if she is still quite young, she will learn to calm down a bit at night. Cat-nip will make some cats very excited, and some very relaxed. Some cats will have no effect at all. It is very safe and a toy with some cat-nip in it is fine. Good luck with Baluu and I hope he enjoys his new toy.

There is no age limit for Cetrizine in dogs; however, it is given based on the weight of your pet so please ask your vet what the appropriate dose would be for Pepper. You can use it on puppies. However, it doesn't have much drowsy effects, so it may not work as well as you are hoping for the puppy. Hello, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I do not recommend giving Pepper any medication to sleep. She's still a baby, and is going through a lot of change and transition. What she needs is time, and patience. Give her a safe, dark, quiet place to sleep with a cozy blanket or other bedding. It may take her a few days to a few weeks to adjust, but she will figure things out. You may need to adjust your expectations a bit - medication is really not the solution here. Also, remember that she does not have a lot of bladder control at her age, and she may cry at night if she needs to go outside. Good luck to you!

Try a pheromone product, such as Feliway spray or plug in diffusers, to decrease any anxiety associated with the new pup. If possible, increase playtime and activity just before bedtime. Have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose any underlying medical conditions. Discuss melatonin use with your veterinarian.

This is very normal as a seven week old puppy is still an infant, and just like human infants will wake and cry at night. Tiring her out right before bed with a long play session, and then getting up 1-2 times in the night for a potty break can help reduce her distress and help her sleep longer. As she gets older, she should sleep more through the night.
