Why is my 4-month-old puppy breathing fast, tongue out, whimpering?

If Buddy is breathing fast after playing or if the room temperature is particularly high it might be completely normal. Dogs breath very fast with an open mouth to decrease their body temperature. If the fast breathing happens during rest/slipping time I would suggest a check up with your local vet for a thorough clinical examination an chest auscultation.

It sounds like Cubbie is really sick. Breathing fast can be due to a fever (due to infection), an injury, pain or even a problem in the lungs. Any any of those problems can cause a puppy to not eat well and not feel well. Anytime a small puppy is not eating normally, they need medical attention right away. Small puppies can become very sick very quickly because they cannot regulate their blood sugar or temperature normally. Sounds like there is something wrong with Ana, if I had to guess I would thing it's probably a gastrointestinal issue. I recommend taking her to the vet for a checkup, she might need some meds to help with this condition.

If there are no other signs and you are not suspecting any intoxication you could monitor him at this stage for the next 2 hours and see if he settles down. If not a check up would be ideal to understand the underlying cause and treat appropriately. Unfortunately at this stage the presentation is quite generic and differentials are many.

Hi there. Your description of Jackie is disturbing. Labored breathing is abnormal at rest in a normal setting. My recommendation is to take him in to the vet-the will perform a physical exam and more than likely recommend x rays to check his heart and lungs for signs of disease. I would recommend bringing him in for an exam. Sometimes rapid breathing can be a sign of discomfort or illness. It is possible he may need a few rounds of deworming, or could have an infection and associated fever. Either way, around 8 weeks is when he should be getting his first round of vaccines and an exam, so I would simply talk to your veterinarian at that appointment.

Hi, a puppy of 3 months old is too young o be left alone at night outside. i suggest bringing him in and keeping him in a crate to keep him comfortable. Make sure he has plenty of cool water and is an a controlled climate. Keeping him inside where it is cool is better for him. I would keep an eye on his breathing, and the color of his gums. They should be pink like a human's gums, not pale or blue. if they are pale or bluish he is having trouble breathing and needs to see a vet as soon as possible or he could die. You can also take his temperature. A dog's temperature should be between 99.5-102.5F. If it is higher, he needs to be cooled off with cool water until you can get to a vet for medications. If it is lower, then he needs warmth. Either way, a too low or high temperature is cause for a trip to the vet when your vet opens. Good luck, i hope this helps!
