My puppy's poop looks bloody and he seems very weak. What should I do?

This blood in his diarrhea could be due to intestinal worms, eating something rotten, a foreign body, parvo if he isn't vaccinated, or a severe stomach illness. He should definitely see a vet for this. As long as he is otherwise ok, it can wait until the morning. If he starts vomiting, has more bloody diarrhea, is very lethargic, stops drinking water, or is vomiting water, take him into an ER vet immediately. I hope this helps!

This falls into one of these categories since you say that he isn't acting sick- Any clinical sign (diarrhea) that persists, worsens, or other signs develop (nausea, vomiting, lethargy, etc) this indicates that Colby should be seen by your veterinarian to assess what is going on. So I would just monitor his stools over the next 6-12 hours and watch for other signs. If things worsen, signs persist, or new signs develop, take him in immediately and let your vet take a detailed history and do a physical exam. They may advise some tests which could include fecal/blood tests, x-rays, etc to determine if a problem is present. A treatment plan can be made once a cause is determined or suspected. Bloody diarrhea can be caused by many things including intestinal worms, dietary problems, dietary indiscretion (eating things a dog should not eat), exposure to a toxin by ingestion, infection, etc. Good luck with Colby.

I'm sorry to hear Frank is having an issue! If he is otherwise acting normally you can try to offer him a bland diet of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice to see if this helps. If the diarrhea persists, he starts vomiting , stops eating or becomes lethargic he will need to be examined by a veterinarian right away. Puppies can easily get intestinal parasites so it would be a good idea to have your veterinarian check a stool sample on Frank. The most likely diseases are as follows: 1. Parvo, a virus that primarily attacks the immune system and intestines of dogs and is very lethal if left without supportive care. 2. Intestinal parasites which can cause intestinal blockage and even anemia (depletion of red blood cells). 3. Other viruses with varying severities. This is not an exhaustive list, just the most common things for a puppy. They will all lead to dehydration and other secondary issues which can all be severe enough to cause death. Whatever the underlying disease, he looks very ill and needs attention from a veterinarian immediately. I would recommend taking him to your nearest emergency veterinary hospital as soon as possible. Vomiting and bloody diarrhea can occur in young puppies as a result of parvovirus, other intestinal viruses, parasites, or an upset stomach from changes in food or medication. Young puppies are more susceptible to the effects of dehydration and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar - typically caused by not eating or excessive vomiting) than adult dogs. At this point, the best thing to do is take Pickles to a vet immediately. The vet will be able to examine her, perform any necessary testing (possibly a stool test, parvovirus test, blood tests) so that the most appropriate treatment can be started. With the severity of Pickles' clinical signs, there are no home remedies that are likely to be even remotely effective. I hope that she is feeling better soon!

At 2 months of age, this has me worried that he may be battling an infection such as Parvo virus. He may also be dehydrated if he is weak and is likely in need of fluid therapy for rehydration. I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would have him parvo tested and have his blood tested to see if there are any other abnormalities. Subcutaneous fluids would certainly help him feel better and he may be so dehydrated the IV fluids may be the best option for him. It is difficult to say without examining him to see how severe he is. I hope this helps! Hello. If you are concerned about parvo, blood may not appear in the diarrhea for another day or so. If he continues to have vomiting & diarrhea, Justice will become dehydrated & this will make him very, very weak.
