My 4-month-old puppy is bloated after eating too much. Is it serious?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 6 days old

My dog appears more bloated than normal. I had a friend watch him while I was in a meeting today and she mentioned he ate some of her dogs food as well as his food. His abdomen is noticeable more distended however he still has normal bowel sounds and is able to defecate without difficulty. His heart rate is rapid and he is panting some however he is acting normal other than seeming more sleepy than usual. He is a 4 month old puppy up to date on shots and is healthy otherwise.

It may be that Teddy just ate too much. Keep a close eye on it, and if he starts trying to throw up but can't, has excessive drooling, starts pacing, or is anxious, have him seen by a vet immediately.

You can monitor him at home for the next 2-3 hours as long as he is not extremely bloated. Eating too much kibbles is more dangerous that eating wet food but I assume that at his age he ate some wet food only ? Some dogs are very thirsty after eating too much food but please do not offer him a lot of water as this may cause further stomach distension. So, your puppy may be sleepy and lethargic for a the next couple of hours then he should get better. However, if he looks in pain and the abdomen is hard and very bloated you should contact your local vets to get help.

If she begins vomiting, especially empty retching you will need to source emergency care for her but otherwise report to your regular vet in the morning. If she is resting quietly, not vomiting, and having no breathing issues then she is probably fine for you to just monitor her now. I strongly suggest you don't feed her anything for 24 hours but make sure she has plenty of water available to drink. If she is having any troubles then she needs to go to the emergency vet. It could be Bon Bon's belly is just bigger from the larger than usual meal. As long as she isn't restless, anxious, trying to vomiting but can't, and excessively drooling, she should be fine. If you see any of those signs I just mentioned, take her into a vet immediately. I hope this helps.

My puppy ate too much kibble. Why is she bloated and lethargic?

I would offer her the normal amount of food in tiny amounts over the next day or two. As in divide her daily ration into six feedings. Allow her plenty of water, and you can even add water to the food. If it is food bloat, she should feel better tomorrow. If she isn’t interested in food tonight or she tries retching or vomiting, she needs to see a vet ASAP.
