My puppy was bitten by another dog. Does he need antibiotics?

Dogs have a lot of bacteria in their mouth, and she could have developed an abscess from this bite. She will be in pain, and she needs pain medication and correct antibiotics to treat this. You should take Murphy to your local vets for an appointment as this wound should be clipped, cleaned, flushed and potentially stitched up under sedation. It would take a very long time to heal if the wound was treated with antibiotics only. The symptoms of infection usually develops in the first 24hrs and include fever, discharge, swelling and pain around the wound.

I would recommend having Darby seen by a veterinarian as soon as you can. Dog bite wounds can be very extensive, beyond what you can see on the surface. There can be significant soft tissue injury that you cannot see, and a wound that looks like a small puncture can actually have deep pocketing and tissue damage. Also, dog bite wounds are very prone to becoming infected, as the bacteria in a dog's mouth can infect your dog's skin and prevent the wounds from healing. Your veterinarian will likely want to sedate Darby so he/she can clip the hair around the wounds and clean them out. Based on Darby's physical exam, your veterinarian may also recommend x-rays to look for evidence of other trauma, such as lung contusions (bruises) or fractures. Your veterinarian can also prescribe pain medications and antibiotics. As a reminder, NEVER give dogs pain medication which is intended for humans, as they can be fatally toxic to dogs. If Daisy has indeed a ruptured anal gland abscess, she will need a course antibiotics to get better. Maybe you can talk to your local vets about a payment plan or try and find a low-cost clinic for Daisy ?

If the wound is deep enough, it may require stitches and prescription antibiotics if it is infected. Depending on your local animal control and rabies laws, your puppy may need a rabies vaccine now and then a booster in 6 months. I would be sure to have Puppy seen by a veterinarian right away so he can have this wound evaluated.

No, it's not safe to give Rex your other dog's medication, as it may not be the correct antibiotic for the bacteria in the dog's mouth that bit him. If the laceration isn't big or deep and the bleeding has stopped, you can wait to take him into the vet until the morning. The vet can examined the laceration, and give an appropriate antibiotic. If the laceration is deep, or the bleeding isn't stopping, you will need to take Rex into the vet now.

Chicken is the most common allergic protein. I would try a venison, beef, or all fish diet. You need to give the diet 2-3 months and he can not get any other foods: No table food, no milk bones, non raw hides, etc. The only treats he can get would be ones that have the new protein in it. Your Vet is the only place you can get antibiotics sadly. You can try calling them and seeing if they will prescribe something if they have seen him recently. Otherwise if you can't get him in the car I would find a mobile Vet to come to your house. I hope this helps and I wish Sampson the best!
