My puppy barks at the TV, even when off. How to fix this behavior?

A good first step is to keep Mitch out of the room with the TV in it. Preventing access to it, and thus distraction by it, may be helpful in curbing the barking behavior. If Mitch does see the TV and begin to bark, moving him to another room and distracting him with a chew toy or puzzle toy to divert his attention can help. You can also start to teach "quiet" (this takes some patience) - ask Mitch to be "quiet" and remove him to a different room. If he stops barking, immediately give him a treat and lots of praise. If he begins barking again, ask him to be quiet, and as soon as he stops, treat again. He'll quickly learn that stopping barking gives him a sweet reward.

These types of behavior can improve though this does require in person training with the help of a qualified dog trainer. I would encourage you to contact a dog trainer that can work with you and your pups in person to really take care of this behavior. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your question. Dallas is exhibiting typical puppy / dog behavior. This is just behavioral and can be corrected. I would recommend using a spray bottle filled with water and every time he barks, lightly spritz him in the face while using a command such as "No barking!" If he continues to bark, you can also use what is called a citronella collar, which can be found online quite easily. I hope this helps! Patience is key. Continue to reinforce the "No bark" command. Try to determine the cause for barking (boredom, hunger, stress, anxiety,etc) and decrease or eliminate the stimuli.
