My puppy ate a toy, is vomiting, and can't poop. Is it a blockage?

Sadly it is very possible that Onyx has a partial obstruction in the upper GI tract from swallowing the soft toy. I am glad that he is acting normally, but the vomiting after eating is very concerning. I recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and likely having x-rays taken to look for signs of an obstruction in the GI tract. The sooner, the better, to prevent possible damage to the GI tract, dehydration or more serious complications. Onyx may need surgery or a scoping procedure to remove an obstruction.

I am very concerned about Pilly, it sounds like he has a very upset stomach! My top concern would be a blockage in his intestines caused by something that he ate, like a toy, bone, sock, trash, etc. This would also prevent food from moving through his system and turning into feces. Other possibilities include bacterial or viral infection, intestinal parasites, or other internal issue. I recommend that Pilly see a vet as soon as possible. Your vet will probably recommend x-rays and maybe even blood work depending on what they discover during the physical exam.

If you think she may have swallowed some string from her toy, I would be very concerned that she might have an intestinal blockage - vomiting, not eating, acting lethargic, and not having regular bowel movements are all common signs of this problem. If she does have a blockage, this is a life-threatening emergency that will require immediate surgery to remove the obstruction, so I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic tonight to be seen. The veterinarian there can examine her and take some x-rays to help determine if there is a blockage present, and will get her into surgery to remove it if a problem is found.

Vomiting and inappetence can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I am concerned that he could be showing signs of an obstruction which is something that requires therapy which sometimes includes surgery. I recommend that you have Jager evaluated by a veterinarian at this point for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. Poor Jack! I would be very concerned that this chew toy he ate is now causing a blockage leading to him vomiting. A GI blockage is fatal without treatment, so since you know he ate a chew toy, the best thing to do is take him into a vet immediately for a physical exam and x-rays. If the chew toy is causing a blockage, it will need to be removed surgically. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. I hate to hear Liam is giving you a scare! The vomiting can be highly variable based upon where it is in the GI tract. Blockages in the stomach tend to result in vomiting very quickly after eating. The intestines are pretty long (like 26 feet) and so the further down it goes, the more delayed things can be. I advise to be worried about any vomiting, no matter how far after eating it occurs. Make sure to keep you vet up to date as they may want to see him again. Also watch for lethargy and decreased appetite-also let your vet known if this is seen. Hopefully he'll be fine! If Morty is crying in pain, unable to eat or pass feces I would be very concerned about a gastrointestinal blockage. This can occur when a dog eats something they shouldn't have, articles of clothing, rawhide, toys or even fruit cores. The foreign body then becomes lodges in the stomach or intestines and forms a blockage. With pressure building up and constructed blood vessels this becomes a life threatening emergency. For this reason I would advise taking Morty straight to the veterinarian. The vet will perform an examination to see if a blockage may be present. If they suspect one an X-ray will likely be done to identify its location and to make a treatment plan. Best of luck to you both. Again I am so sorry Morty is experiencing this.
