My dog ate a toy. How long until he vomits again if obstructed?

Sadly it is very possible that Onyx has a partial obstruction in the upper GI tract from swallowing the soft toy. I am glad that he is acting normally, but the vomiting after eating is very concerning. I recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and likely having x-rays taken to look for signs of an obstruction in the GI tract. The sooner, the better, to prevent possible damage to the GI tract, dehydration or more serious complications. Onyx may need surgery or a scoping procedure to remove an obstruction.

I'm quite concerned that if Vinny has a habit of eating things he should not, if he did eat this toy, it's causing a blockage in his intestines. That would cause him to vomit, not eat, and not be able to poop. If he does have an intestinal blockage, that is a medical emergency as it is fatal without treatment. I cannot say he will be ok without seeing him in person, so the best thing for you to do is take him into a vet immediately to get checked out and have x-rays done. Please take him into a vet now. Vomiting and inappetence can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I am concerned that he could be showing signs of an obstruction which is something that requires therapy which sometimes includes surgery. I recommend that you have Jager evaluated by a veterinarian at this point for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. Poor Jack! I would be very concerned that this chew toy he ate is now causing a blockage leading to him vomiting. A GI blockage is fatal without treatment, so since you know he ate a chew toy, the best thing to do is take him into a vet immediately for a physical exam and x-rays. If the chew toy is causing a blockage, it will need to be removed surgically. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Poor Nuala! If you think she may have swallowed some string from her toy, I would be very concerned that she might have an intestinal blockage - vomiting, not eating, acting lethargic, and not having regular bowel movements are all common signs of this problem. If she does have a blockage, this is a life-threatening emergency that will require immediate surgery to remove the obstruction, so I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic tonight to be seen. The veterinarian there can examine her and take some x-rays to help determine if there is a blockage present, and will get her into surgery to remove it if a problem is found.

Of course the concern would be a gastrointestinal obstruction from her eating pieces of her toy. At this point, if she has only vomited once, you may continue to monitor her closely to see if it is only going to be an isolated episode. Watch closely for signs associated with an obstruction such as nausea, vomiting, anorexia and abdominal pain. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. After this much time, I would not recommend inducing vomiting at this time. More than likely it is in the process of moving through the gut, or it has already passed unnoticed in the stool. If Marsha is still eating, & there is no vomiting or diarrhea, then I would continue to watch for any difficulties. Feeding her a bland diet of 25% boiled chicken or beef and 75% plain, cooked white rice should help to move the material through. If all is well after 3 days of the diet, then I would be surprised if any further issues develop. But any concerns, please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Thank you.
