My puppy ate fur from a dog toy. Can it cause digestive issues?

No, in most cases this should not cause any problems with her digestive system :) It's quite common for puppies and adult dogs to ingest some hair from time to time - it usually just comes out in the stool, or she may vomit up hairballs occasionally like a cat.

As long as you are monitoring Oliver when he is playing with this toy he should be fine. Make sure he is not tearing off pieces and ingesting them. A small piece of fluff will probably not harm him and if ingested will be able to pass through. However, if he were to ingest large pieces they may cause a blockage. If you are unable to keep Oliver from destroying and ingesting the toy then you should probably find another toy that won't be as risky for him to chew on.

Yes it can cause issues with the intestines if he ingest large amount of hair, i'm still not sure where exactly he gets all these hairs from though. you could use a hairball paste for cats, that can help dissolving and passing the hair but obviously the hair ingestion is the main thing that you need to prevent from him to do.

If you notice Jax having vomiting, diarrhea, or a decrease in appetite or energy, that could indicate the fur chunk is stuck and he needs veterinary care. If you don't notice that in the next few days, I wouldn't be too concerned, as hopefully it will have passed.

If he continues to eat stuffing and string from toys, these can lead to an intestinal foreign body obstruction and cause some very serious complications. I would switch from these types of toys to other toys that are more difficult to destroy such as the kong toys. There are many different kong toys you can find at the pet store. I hope this helps! Of course the concern would be a gastrointestinal obstruction from her eating pieces of her toy. At this point, if she has only vomited once, you may continue to monitor her closely to see if it is only going to be an isolated episode. Watch closely for signs associated with an obstruction such as nausea, vomiting, anorexia and abdominal pain. If observed, have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment at that point. Good luck and have a great day!

Hi there. It could be a little too early for Snowball to pass the stuffing. We always worry any time a puppy ingests anything it shouldn't. Please watch her stools to see if anything is passing or if you note any blood in her feces, etc. If she shows any signs of vomiting or diarrhea, please take her in. Depending on the amount of stuffing she took in-she could potentially become obstructed which could make her very sick. It sounds like you're watching her very closely, good for you!
