My puppy's new toy is shedding. Is it safe if he eats the tufts?

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 2 months and 13 days old | 6.4 lbs

Bought my puppy Oliver a new toy, but realized that when he bites and pulls, little tufts of the material come out. I've know that swallowing threads and chunks of fibrous materials isn't good, but should I be worried about the small tufts that he can rip off this toy?

As long as you are monitoring Oliver when he is playing with this toy he should be fine. Make sure he is not tearing off pieces and ingesting them. A small piece of fluff will probably not harm him and if ingested will be able to pass through. However, if he were to ingest large pieces they may cause a blockage. If you are unable to keep Oliver from destroying and ingesting the toy then you should probably find another toy that won't be as risky for him to chew on.

    I would not be too concerned about him pulling tiny fibers off of this toy, but if he pulls it apart I would recommend taking it away so he doesn't ingest larger pieces of the fabric. If it seems like he's able to pull off pieces bigger than a penny and is doing so frequently you may want to take it away as well. It's a cute toy!

If she pulls the fur off and eats it there is always a chance that it could build up and cause an obstruction in her gut. It is unlikely and dogs chew these sort of toys up every day but the chance is still there. To be 100% safe it would be better not to give it to her.

These tiny pieces should pass through without an issues. It is when larger pieces break off and are ingested that there is cause for concern. Always monitor your dog when he is chewing. Replace the NylaBone if it breaks into several parts or if he can fit the entire bone into his mouth.

This is a fairly small piece of cloth for a dog this size, so I wouldn't worry too much - it will probably pass through with no problems. You will need to monitor him for the next 2-3 days for any problems such as repeated episodes of vomiting, acting lethargic, or not wanting to eat - these can be signs of a blockage, so if you see them, you will need to take Archer to the vet right away. But as long as he is acting normal, I wouldn't worry at all.

I would monitor him very closely for any changes in behavior, appetite, or if he begins vomiting or having diarrhea. If these clinical signs occur, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian ASAP.

No, it is not safe! The pieces can cause a blockage in the intestinal tact. You might try something harder, such as a Nylabone, if your dog is an overly-enthusiastic chewer.
