My puppy ate a plastic knife and has bloody stool. Is it an emergency?

If your pup has eaten a foreign body such as plastic it is possible she has a partial obstruction which is why she is still able to eat and pass some (soft) stools. It would be best to bring her into a vet ASAP to have her examined for a foreign body or other issues such as GI upset, parasites, illness, etc, so that she can be treated, especially since this issue has been ongoing for weeks.

The spots of blood could possibly be related to eating parts of the comb, or could be caused by intestinal parasites or a bacterial or viral infection. I think it would be best to have him checked out by a vet tomorrow, or sooner if he develops vomiting or lethargy.

If he’s otherwise normal you should be fine watching him tonight. He could have a ruptured anal abscess, or be passing a bone. He could also have a mass inside the rectum. Severe bloody diarrhea in a dog that is lethargic and not eating is a medical emergency but this sounds like he’s stable so bring him to your regular veterinarian in the morning so they can diagnose and treat his problem. As long as Iggy is eating, drinking and acting normally, and is not having any profuse vomiting or diarrhea, this is not an emergency. Red-tinted stool typically occurs with irritation to the colon that can be caused by a variety of issues, like irritation from a virus, parasites or even bleeding disorders. While it's certainly worth having Iggy evaluated by his vet and having a stool sample checked for intestinal parasites, this isn't necessarily an emergency! I hope that all goes well!

Blood is always concerning in the stool, but as long as Arah is eating and drinking normally, and otherwise behaving normally, it's not an emergency. That's not to say it shouldn't be checked out by a vet, it should, but you don't have to rush her in immediately. Have her seen in the next few days.

This blood in his diarrhea could be due to intestinal worms, eating something rotten, a foreign body, parvo if he isn't vaccinated, or a severe stomach illness. He should definitely see a vet for this. As long as he is otherwise ok, it can wait until the morning. If he starts vomiting, has more bloody diarrhea, is very lethargic, stops drinking water, or is vomiting water, take him into an ER vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Blood in the feces can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities.
