My puppy ate a pee pad and vomited. Is it safe to feed him now?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Kobu chewed up and ingested pieces of a wee-wee pad then he is at risk for that material to become stuck. If you made him vomit, did he vomit up ALL the pieces that were missing? If he didn't vomit up pieces then hopefully he will pass them in his stool. I would feed him small amounts of water and a bland diet as small frequent meals for several days. If he refuses to eat, starts vomiting and is lethargic he needs to be seen ASAP by a Veterinarian. They will need to take X-rays to make sure he doesn't need surgery to remove the pad pieces. I hope this helps and I wish you and Kobu the best!

It is very possible, and I would be worried if he's now having vomiting and diarrhea, as that may indicate a partial blockage (where some but not all stool is able to properly pass). If his symptoms continue, or none of the pee pad is passing, I would schedule a vet visit immediately to check for foreign body.

If he eats it and keeps it down, you can offer him more in 2-3 hrs. However, if he refuses to eat, vomits or if he is not passing stools as normal, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.

Yes, if your puppy has been vomiting after eating abnormal material, she should absolutely be seen by a veterinarian. Pads can potentially cause obstruction of her stomach or intestines. She should be evaluated and have radiographs performed to rule out an obstruction of her gastrointestinal tract, ASAP.

Poor Gregor! He has been through a lot! If I am understanding you correctly, he has vomited up the foreign object. If he vomited up the foreign object and is feeling better, then I would recommend offering a bland diet such as boiled chicken mixed with rice. Offer just a tablespoon or 2 and see if he can keep it down. He is urinating a lot of clear urine most likely because he is well hydrated (good job!) But, if he is feeling better, and not vomiting, it is time to start feeding him. If he holds down the small meal, offer that every hour for the first day. Then on day 2- feed it for 3 meals. If he does well for that, start mixing it with his original diet and get him back on a regular feeding schedule. If he became ravenous before the foreign object, it is most likely that he is on a growth spurt. If he doesn't want to eat, is still vomiting or is lethargic- please take Gregor in for an exam at a veterinarian. He could still have another foreign object or another problem. Since you don't when or how much, it is reasonable to monitor for any GI upset or vomiting or diarrhea and monitor his activity level and appetite. If you notice any changes over the next 1-2 days then he needs to be seen by a vet to see if there is an obstruction.

This is common behavior and the concern is that if he eats enough of it, it could cause an obstruction. You can tape down the edges of the puppy pad so he cannot pull it up to eat it. You can also start crate training him. This will prevent him from eating puppy pads but it will also help with potty training. The crate will provide him a small space where he can feel safe in it when you are gone. You will have to slowly train him to get used to a crate. Start putting him in it when you are home and sitting nearby so he doesn't think you are abandoning him, and slowly increase the time he is in it. He can have toys in the crate, and puzzle toys with treats in it that he has to figure out how to get the treats out. You can put a teaspoon of peanut butter in a Kong toy and freeze it in the freezer overnight, then give it to him in the crate. That will keep him occupied for a while. I hope this helps!
