My puppy ate ham and cheese pizza. Should I go to the vet or monitor?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Pizza in and of it's self is not toxic. If there was an excessive amount of onions then maybe. Otherwise one of 2 things may happen: 1) Nothing! 2) Molly develops vomiting and/or diarrhea from an upset stomach or pancreas. It isn't wrong to feed her a bland diet for a few days. Boil chicken breast or hamburger and mix with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day for 3-5 days. I hope this helps and I wish Molly the best!

He might get an upset stomach from eating the hot sauce. You will need to monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, and/or lethargy. If you notice anything abnormal then he will need to be examined by your vet for treatment.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Shadow! Some dogs can not handle people food due to sensitive stomachs. Shadow is a bit young to be fed pizza. It likely caused inflammation of his stomach and intestines or pancreatitis. he could also be vomiting and not eating for other reasons: foreign body ingestion (something is stuck requiring surgery), viral (parvo) or bacterial infections, intestinal parasites, toxin ingestion, other food allergies or sensitivities. Since Shadow is so young if he is still vomiting I recommend he see your Vet today. If the vomiting has stopped I would try to feed him a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day for 3-5 days then transition him back to his puppy food. If he continue to not eat he should be seen by your Vet before the weekend. Hello, you should monitor him for any signs of vomiting. If you note any then he should be seen by a veterinarian. Ideally, the cheese and wrapper will pass without complications but if the wrapper is big enough, it may become such and cause an obstruction. Make sure that you keep him away from other foreign material in the future since he may be an indiscriminate eater. Hope this helps and best of luck.

No you don’t need to take him to the vet right now. If he start acting lethargic, stops eating, or starts vomiting or having diarrhea, then yes I would take him to your vet then. Your vet will be able to get him started on something to help settle his tummy and make him feel better. I agree that ham isn’t the best thing to feed them, but some dogs will eat a little bit and not have a problem. Just watch him closely. I hope this helps!

The most that will likely happen is he may have some diarrhea. Just keep an eye on him and if he starts vomiting or has severe diarrhea then you should take him to your vet for an exam. You may see some gastrointestinal upset (vomiting and diarrhea) in the next few hours. If necessary, you can fast him for 6-12 hours then feed a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or GI upset that does not resolve. See your veterinarian for an exam and treatment if any of these symptoms develop.
