My puppy ate a latex glove. Does he need a vet if acting normal?

I would only worry if you see symptoms of a possible obstruction, which includes: excessive vomiting, lack of appetite, lethargy and few feces. If seen then its best to take him to your vet for a proper exam and testing to determine if the gloves are still inside. Hopefuly he continues to do well as it seems he has done so far. Sometimes the foreign body is small enough to pass through the gastrointestinal tract without causing a problem and can be medically managed as it seems to be in your description with your veterinarian. However, sometimes foreign bodies do get stuck in the intestine and can cause an intestinal obstruction that requires surgery. it is good Marla is eating and has not vomited, but if you notice anytime in the next 48 hours that her lethargy is not improving, she loses her appetite, starts vomiting, or having diarrhea, I would recommend taking her in again. Even if the glove passes through the pyloric sphincter, it can get stuck elsewhere in the intestinal tract. Initially, waiting isn't considered harmful if the object is suspected to be small enough and believed to be passable, but if it is large enough, it may cause an obstruction and should be treated surgically. Again, signs to watch out for that would warrant another vet visit would be lack of appetite, continued lethargy or worsening lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea in the next 48 hours. I hope this helps! You're right that it's possible for pieces of the mask to get stuck in his intestines and cause an obstruction, but they may also pass through his system without any problems at all. As long as he is acting normal (eating and drinking fine, active and playful, no vomiting, and pooping regularly), there shouldn't be any reason for concern. If he stops eating, or begins to vomit or act lethargic, then I would recommend taking him to the vet for x-rays to see if he may have an obstruction - if so, surgery can be performed to remove the blockage at that time. But as long as he is not showing any symptoms, there is no need for any kind of treatment :)

But if he develops any signs of a blockage such as repeated episodes of vomiting, not wanting to eat, acting lethargic, or not having regular bowel movements, then you will need to take him to the vet right away for an exam and x-rays, as he may need surgery to remove the condom.

I would monitor her stool to see if there is any evidence of the fabric in her stool. If she is showing any symptoms such as vomiting, lethargy or decreased appetite then I would get her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to have abdominal x-rays taken and an exam.

The sock may take longer to pass than normal feces but if it isn't getting caught up anywhere in the intestines, it will likely pass. However, if he stops eating, has repeated episodes of vomiting, or goes more than 48 hours without a bowel movement, I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam and possible abdominal x-rays, as these can be signs of an intestinal blockage that may need surgery. I would not recommend giving any kind of laxative, as this isn't likely to help - just continue to feed him his normal diet, and monitor to make sure he's pooping.
