My puppy ate a small bone, coughed, and is sleeping. Should I worry?

If it continues to happen then it is concerning and she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. If she was chewing on a bone the blood could be from inflammation or an injury from the bone. Monitor her and schedule an appointment with your vet if you notice anything abnormal.

She could certainly have irriation from the bone she ate, especially if she choked on it. Keep an eye on her and if the coughing continues for more than 48 hrs, then she should be seen by your vet for a suspected upper airway infection. I wouldn't worry if it was just one-time, however I would monitor the puppies for any additional coughs or signs of respiratory issues (heavy breathing, vomiting, not wanting to eat or drink, turning pale/blue, etc) If the coughing happens again, or you are seeing other signs of illness, a vet visit right away is best.

I would watch him for now and if he begins to develop symptoms such as vomiting, inappetance, lethargy, abdominal pain, etc. then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him. I'm quite concerned this bone is causing Simba's problems. Bones should never be given to dogs because they cause obstructions, and he is potentially showing signs of an obstruction. You need to take him into a vet immediately.

Unfortunately without seeing Cozy in person, I can't say for certain she will be ok. This may pass without problem, but it could cause an obstruction. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, an inability to pass poop, or lethargy, have her seen by a vet immediately. Best of luck.
