My dog ate a blanket, threw it up, now eating. Should I worry?

As long as he is eating and drinking normally, I would not be concerned. If he begins to vomit or loses his appetite, then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him and perform some diagnostic testing such as x-rays to help rule out a foreign body obstruction from the plastic. Mischievous Atticus! The size of the piece of blanket is not very large so hopefully none of it has become lodged anywhere in the GI tract. With any luck, he is just feeling out of sorts from the gastrointestinal upset he has caused himself to have. If you do decide to take him to the vet, regular x-rays will not say with certainly whether or not there is a partial obstruction because cloth material cannot be differentiated. Contrast material like barium is needed to do this, which is a liquid that travels through the GI tract over the course of several hours. X-rays are taken numerous times over the course of this time to see if the barium is traveling in a normal or abnormal fashion. Since he has been passing portions of it already, I am really not very worried about it. He however might really benefit from an anti-nausea and anti-diarrheal medication. While there are over the counter options, something like Cerenia which can only be obtained via prescription would be a great choice in this instance. There are also several over the counter anti diarrheals available. If the vomiting and lethargy does continue to persist for another day or so, I would say to bite the bullet and bring him in for an exam. Hope this makes sense.

Hi. Poor Niko. It could be one of 2 things. The passing of the blanket is causing GI upset, or possibly some of it is stuck. I would recommend that if this continues tomorrow, then he needs xrays to check his GI tract

I would recommend contacting Midnight's vet about this. Depending on how long ago he ate it it may be recommended to induce vomiting and to try to get him to throw up the sheet. Otherwise closely monitor him for the next few days to weeks for any sign of intestinal blockage; which can include vomiting, straining to defecate, painful in the abdomen, not eating or drinking. If she ate a significant amount of her bedding, it's definitely possible that she could have an intestinal obstruction. Normally, signs of an obstruction would include vomiting, lethargy, not eating, and not having bowel movements. It sounds like your pup is eating normally and having bowel movements regularly. Vomiting once or twice is not necessarily a concern is she is still eating find and acting normal - but if she has repeated episodes of vomiting, stops having bowel movements, or begins acting lethargic then I would recommend having her seen by a vet right away.

She could have an intestinal obstruction or possibly just an upset stomach. She should be examined by a vet to determine if she has an obstruction and your vet can take an abdominal x-ray to evaluate. She would need surgery to remove the towel, if an obstruction is found. If your vet does not see evidence of an obstruction than he/she can prescribe medications to help treat the vomiting.

It is possible that she has an intestinal obstruction or blockage from eating parts of her blanket. This is usually diagnosed with x-rays of the abdomen, and an intestinal obstruction is a surgical emergency. If he absolutely cannot get her to a veterinarian until 7am, I recommend not feeding her any food in the meantime. She can have access to water, however she may vomit this up.
