Why isn't my 3-month-old pug puppy eating and what can I do?

Hello. I am sorry to hear your pug isn't feeling well. If your dog is dull and lethargic, and not wanting to eat, it could be a sign of something stuck in her stomach or intestines, or a gastritis/pancreatitis. I would suggest having her seen by a veterinarian. Alternatively, you can cook her boneless, skinless, boiled chicken breast and some boiled rice. If she eats this and keeps it down, I would feed her small meals of this for a couple days, and see if she gets better. If she does then it was mild gastritis, but if she vomits or continues to be lethargic I would bring her to a vet right away.

I would be concerned that Queen isn't eating because she has a medical illness. Anorexia is a very general sign of illness in dogs, and can be caused by systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. I would have her seen by a vet as soon as possible for a health check. The vet can diagnose what is causing her to not eat and can discuss treatment plans with you for her.

Poor Kuttush! I worry he may have something else going on like a viral infection, upset tummy from eating something he shouldn't, or even intestinal parasites. You can try to entice him to eat by offering some plain boiled boneless, skinless chicken and white rice to see if this helps. Since he is so young and small, if he isn't improving soon I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to figure out the cause and get him started on the right meds before he becomes too dehydrated. I hope this helps!

Some dogs are slower eaters than others, but I see that Kisses is four months old. This is the age when puppies are teething, and it could be painful for her to eat, causing her to eat slower or not eat all her food. Try soaking her food in warm water, or gently warmed low sodium beef of chicken broth to make her food softer. This may help encourage her to eat. If this doesn't work, then I would have her seen by a vet as a decrease in appetite can be a sign of a medical illness. Best of luck!

I'm so sorry to hear that Beax is not feeling well. We always get concerned when puppies do not eat and are vomiting. Adult dogs can go a while without eating, but puppies can get very sick very quickly if they are not eating and are vomiting. I would recommend having Beax seen by a veterinarian today. They will be able to evaluate for any underlying disease, see if she is dehydrated, and give her some anti-nausea medication to make her feel better. Good luck! If your puppy is not eating at all and this began within the last day or two, I would be very concerned about a serious medical problem - if this is the case, you should get him to a vet right away. Common causes of not eating in puppies would include parvo or intestinal obstruction, but almost any serious illness could cause not eating as a symptom so it would be hard to know the cause without an exam and possibly some blood work or x-rays. If this problem has been going on for a while and your pup is acting fairly normal otherwise, then yes - it's possible that he could have worms, or he may be a picky eater who would do better with a different diet. You could try deworming him with a dewormer labeled for dogs such as Panacur - you can get this over the counter at many pet stores, just follow the dosing instructions on the label for your puppy's weight. You may also want to try a different brand or flavor of puppy chow, or mix some canned puppy food in with his dry food to see if this helps to tempt his appetite. If this doesn't seem to help, then I would recommend having him seen by a vet to find out if there is some other reason for his poor appetite.

I would recommend to continue to supplemental feeding. Its possible that there is a congenital problem that is causing her to be so small compared to her littermates. I would recommend a vet visit to see if anything can be determined on physical exam. I would also recommend deworming the whole litter and mom to make sure parasites aren't a problem. The doctor may recommend bloodwork to check for any signs of liver problems. I hope this helps!
