Are probiotics good for dogs with loose stool after giardia infection?

Based on what you are saying, it sounds like Pepper might benefit from a probiotic in her diet to keep her more "regular". Organisms like Giardia have the ability to complete throw off the microflora of the intestinal tract, so the addition of something to right the situation is often required. There are several over the counter ones available at pet stores, my favorite being fortiflora canine. You just sprinkle it on the food once a day for thirty days. Dogs usually love the taste so it's not problem. It will be nice to know if the Giardia is gone after the retest, but I think the probiotic for now is the best plan of action.

It is very common for dogs to have some GI upset when first being adopted. It is usually a combination of the stress of adjusting to a new environment and a change in food. I think the ingredients in this product look good and you could start those right away. I would also recommend giving a combination of plain white rice and boiled chicken for a few days. This is a bland diet and easy to digest. Once the signs have improved, you can start to transition Coal from the chicken and rice to the diet you want him on permanently. Hello. If you have access to a good probiotic for dogs, then I would start this immediately. If no dog probiotics, then the human product, Culturelle, is fine to use. Just use the adult recommended dose. I would also make sure they only receive bottled water, or water that has been boiled & cooled. Make sure they have no access to any standing water outside. If your veterinarian can send off a stool sample to test for other organisms that cause diarrhea ( this is usually referred to as a PCR Diarrhea Panel ), this would be very useful, too. This answer partially depends on what the problem is. However, the most common thing we will recommend for GI health is probiotics (often in conjunction with pre-biotics). Probiotics are the good bacteria in the GI tract that help it stay healthy. There are a number of products on the market. Some are more complete than others. While you could administer probiotics in theory, I prefer to stay away from anything that is not part of the diet or medications while patients are recovering from pancreatitis. Ths can be a tricky disease to get rid of. The diarrhea caused by Giardia can lead to colitis, an inflammation in the bowel wall, which can make the diarrhea worse and/or persist despite the treatment. You will need to make sure you are cleaning up all of Kenai’s feces daily so that he does not become reinfected. It may also be helpful to ask your veterinarian about adding a probiotic to Kenai’s treatment plan. This can help the diarrhea clear up more quickly. And finally, it may be worth retesting Kenai’s feces to make sure nothing else is going on. He may need an additional antibiotic to help clear up the diarrhea. I hope this helps. Yes, I suggest you get him a probiotic to add to the food. Use the probiotic with the chicken and rice (no puppy food) for about 4 days and then go back to trying to transition him back to the puppy food. I like this probiotic. I think it is the best. Feed one packet on the food daily.
